Can bad exhaust leaks make car slower?

Hello, as most of you know, i have like 3 forums going... yeah, new car to me. I took my car to car x, and they found an ultra-bad exhaust leak coming from my 3" exhaust out of the flex piping. I smell unusual exhaust smells, and its unusually louder and annoying, and i also noticed my car SLOWER! my car is boosting full at 10 psi at 2.5 - 3 rpms. Could the exhaust leak make it do that? i checked all boost leaks and there are no boost leaks. thanks:thumb:
 
That seems like normal spool up time to me. A post-turbo exhaust leak shouldn't effect turbo spoolup. Only pre-turbo. But you should get that one fixed anyway because you would hate to be sitting at a stop light and pass out due to asphyxiation.
 
Unless you've done a complete boost leak test with a compressor and soapy water, you can't just rule out boost leaks by saying "I looked for them and there are none." A proper test is very time intensive and could take more than a day including ordering parts (injector seals, tb shaft seals, ect).

Like Brute said, a leak post turbo will have very little negative effects. Some might argue that those leaks cause turbulence, therefore less flow, but at the same time they're reducing backpressure. Whether or not it really makes a difference is up to you.

Is your leak in the exhaust manifold or downstream of the turbo? I can't tell from your post whether it's before or after the turbo. If it's after, my main concern would be the extra heat in the engine bay and possible damage to nearby components. If it's upstream you would also see an increase in spoolup time. Either way, it isn't very good.

That would be the O2 housing, not exhaust manifold.
 
Head -> manifold -> turbine housing -> O2 housing

Anthing before the turbine housing will effect turbo performance as well as close loop operation due to incorrect O2 sensor readings. Sounds like you're leaking in between the turbine and O2 housing which should only effect the o2 sensor readings (close loop) but not turbo performance.
