I am looking at a 1990 GSX 5spd, The guy says the ECU is bad and that's why it won't start.

Question is can I use my 1991 Tsi's ECU to test the 90 gsx?
I know the tach won't work, but I really don't care about that as I am just wanting to see if it will run.

The car will start with the 91-94 ecu but like everyone else said it will idle very poorly and won't move hardly at all. With the wrong ECu it will be hard to tell if there are any other problems with the way the engine runs. If you can try to find a 90 ECU to test it with.

On a side note, once you get it, you can swap pins 6 and 14 and have it run properly for a test drive.
Bring a tiny (3/64") jewlers screwdriver with so you can slide out the locks and lift the retainers to pull the two wires out and swap them. It takes me about 30 seconds to swap them. Figure a souple of mins if you've never done it before.
