I have a 95 GST and i am getting ready to put a 16g on it, would it be better to go with a FMIC to have the later spooling time for traction purposes or a SMIC? Is the spool time actually noticeably longer with a FMIC then a SMIC? The sleeper look doesn't matter to me, i would rather have useble power then a sleeper car, and I am really having a hard time wording this question for some reason so sorry for any mixups.:dsm:

the spool time will be negligable. Get the fmic for looks and better cooling. Also, if you upgrade turbos later you wont have to worry. Do it right the first time through.

Front mounts are cool but if i was to go with a side mount it would be a dejon tool or a supra. i wouldn't stay with the stocker, it heatsoaks all to quick with more then stock boost pressure

Spool time is unoticable and the only time you would be hurt by having a fmic is if you ran low boost, because then the turbo will have to work harder cause of less flow. I say go ahead and get the fmic for when you start to really push that 16g.

I would go with a FMIC also. You will not notice the spool difference. I also would not go with the evo8 core that was posted above. For just a little more you can get a new and larger core off of ebay. The sidemounts are ok but love to heatsoak after a few hard runs. The only advantage with a SMIC is the sleeper look and that you will not block the air flow to the radiator, which is usually not big problem anyways.

I would think that with your goals, you should go with the front mount. It would not be too much more expensive, and you will not heat soak it as fast. You won't notice a big difference in spool time between the two.

I am into the sleeper look, so I have the Dejon tools SMIC and it works well, but as stated above, after a few back to back runs it will heatsoak.

So, since everyone is already posting the same thing... I feel my need to post what everyone else has already said.
Go with a front mount... I will argue on doing it for "looks"... don't do it for looks. Do it because it will be the more efficient of the two options. Sidemounts are good for sleepers, but as stated, heatsoak. I'm still running my 14b, but I picked up a fmic a few weeks ago because I'm planning on the eIII 16g turbo. Don't get the Evo fmic, it's not that great and for a little more, you can have a decent one that flows a bit better.
