Before you post a question in our forums, read these:
Frequently Answered DSM Questions - DSM Forums

And these:
Tech Article Archives - DSM Forums

This is a heads-up for all members who skipped the rules and didn't read the FAQ Forum and Tech Guide like they were supposed to. If you ask a question that is clearly answered in those two areas your question will be moved to the Newbie Thread Graveyard. The Newbie Forum is not a substitute for doing your own research. It's here so you can ask Newbie-like questions in a friendly environment. However, if you show us that you haven't read the rules of the site and have not done your own research (by doing the required reading), your threads will be moved, you'll receive warnings, and you'll probably end up getting suspended if you keep posting questions that are answered in those sections. This has nothing to do with the Search feature either, it's simply about reading the FAQ Forum and the Tech Guide before you post.

Read the RED text on all posting forms. Your membership depends on it.

Chris, when we come across a post where the person has obviously not read the faq or used the search, what should we do? Should we link them to this thread or report the post to a moderator?

A good reminder but I'd love to see the addition of "Don't post ANYTHING, until you've searched, read the vFAQ, the tech guides and have completed a BOOST LEAK TEST."
Problem with requiring them to do a search first is that we can't know what keywords they used for a search. There is no way to know whether or not they did a search beforehand and just didn't find the information. Some people don't know how to use the search function effectively. However, requiring members to read through the FAQ Forum and Tech Guide will take care of that problem. The Search isn't always 100% reliable. But if the answer is clearly posted in an area they're supposed to read through first, it will be quite obvious that they were just too lazy to do the required reading.

AS Ive found out in searching for answers .. yes there are questions asked over and over and i do understand it gets frustrating for you guys >>>>>> but im a 54 year old mechanic thats just started tinkering with dsm 's and i know myself in some cases it doesnt matter what you type in for search sorry try again or many times the links take you to a closed site .....i myself have been on here from 9pm tonight till 3 am trying to find a answer to my question and> or a link that might help me ive read till im dog tired trying to find a answer and if i do find one its not quite pertaining to my question.... now im not running this sight down in no way shape or form....I think its a great site . But ive saw some real bashing on here that realy wasnt called for i may be a newbie to dsm but im not your back yard mechanic either ... I dont want to live in fear simply because I cant find Exactly what im looking for and asking for help ....... again this is a great site - very informative and some great people ......I aplaud you guys for a great site but show some mercy if the mercys warrented:applause:

I would figure giving people a chance. If they ask an obvious question, link them to the answer. The "Before you reply" has the rules quite clearly.

Holding their hand would be doing the search for them. Offering help would be offering key words. Only other complaint is some of the sites are now down and the links need to be fixed, or adjusted to new sources.
