Add buzzer alert when lights are off?

I tend to forget to turn the lights on when driving at day. I'm risking a nice $300 fine if i get cought without lights...

Would it be possible to make the buzzer alert me when the lights are off and engine on?

If you are willing to use the seat belt warning buzzer for this instead, and don't mind it going off whenever the headlights are off and the ignition switch is not in the lock position (note this includes the accessory position and whether the engine is running or not), PM me and I'll tell you how by adding just 1 wire under the dash.

I'd say screw a mod to the car, get a petition instead.

It looks pretty easy to do a DRL mod to the car. Do the taillights need to be on too?
Grounding pin 3 of the headlight relay would turn them on all the time so deciding when you want them on and then grounding pin 3 should work.

Hmm.. Yes maybe it would be easier to just make the lights automaticly turn on when engine starts - like most other cars do in my country. But i must still be able to turn off main light so only parking light is on. Would this be an easy mod? I know very little about electronics

Edit: Yes, the tail parking lights needs to be on to...

Well you will have to be able to locate/cut/strip a couple of wires and add a new wire and connect them (preferably solder them). If you feel uncomfortable with this (and directions below) perhaps you can find someone who isn't. The following should get you what you want. When you leave the headlight switch on, the lights will go on (tail lights if in tail position, head and tail lights if in head position) with the engine running and off when it's not. You can still turn the lights off with the engine running by just turning the headlight switch off. [The only drawback is you will not be able to turn the lights on when the engine is not running (To support this would require extra complicated switches/circuitry which would not be worth it. The factory daytime running lights feature has a special control unit to handle all this including anti-theft.)]

The steering column headlight switch has 2 switches for lighting control: head/tail lighting switch (rotates) and hi-lo beam passing switch (push/pull). You must cut the wire (within the switch) that goes from the head/tail lighting switch "head position" to the hi-lo beam passing switch (this is connected to ground and must be disconnected so ECU won't get damaged). Leave the hi-lo beam passing switch wire still connected to ground so passing switch will work however. Now cut the hi-lo beam passing switch connector pin 2 wire (so ECU won't get damaged when using passing switch). Now cut the head/tail lighting switch connector pin 7 wire. Connect this wire (on the switch side) to the head/tail lighting switch "head position" wire you already cut. Also connect another wire to it and run it to either the ASD relay pin 4 (or ECU pin 67) or the fuel pump relay pin 4 (or ECU pin 74). Now when the ECU turns on the ASD or fuel pump relay, the lights will also come on if the head/tail lighting switch is in the on position.

Disconnect the battery before doing any of this but first write down your radio stations so you can put them back in when done. You will also need to know any radio security code. If you need any wire colors or connector/pin locations let me know. If you need the wiring diagram PM me an email address that accepts attachments.

This mod is probably not for someone who knows nothing about wiring or how to solder. So get your brother (or someone who can modify wiring) and have them TAKE THEIR TIME to do it right.

Just keep in mind 1g/2g Eclipses werent marketted here. He could however get some parts out of a Talon for daytime running lights. Thats what most of the guys who get their out of province and out of country inspection do, but usually remove it once they pass.
