Well today I was driving around and that little triangular plastic piece that covers the interior side of my mirror fell off.

I looked inside, and it was being held on with duct tape, which the previous owner had put there to keep it in place.

All of the tabs that normally hold it in, were broken. It look like he attempted to remove it without know what he was doing.

My question is:

Where can I find a replacement "triangle" interior mirror plastic piece, and what's the real name for it so I can search for one?

Thanks LOL

^^^^ thats pretty much the only way to get it, the same thing happend to my driverside interior mirror piece, Ive looked all over the net for a new one but I wasn't able to find any.

First Team Mitsubishi in Tallahassee can get them. For a 96, they have 2 different part numbers showing up. Both of them are $14 for one plastic cover. Check with your local dealer or call First Team at 850-575-1212. If you buy it from them, tell them you are a club member and you'll get a discount. The parts guy's name is Jeremy. He said that he'll need the Vin number to find out which part it is that you need. I hope this helps.

And what is the proper way to remove the piece so that you don't break off the plastic tabs? I was thinking about mounting my Boston Acoustic tweet pods (bought them 8 years ago - still in box) there (make a beefier mounting plate) and firing them at the windshield, but I didn't want to break the piece taking it off so that I could put it back later if needed.

Instead of poping it off from the bottom with a flat head, pry it out from all the sides with a small screwdriver.

Do you know the correct name for this piece?
I have no clue. I called it "the plastic piece that goes in the triangle on the inside mirror", he knew what I was talking about.

Just so you don't confuse the hell out of some poor parts guy. the part you are refering to is called a window sail.

How in the hell did you come up with thatROFL

window sail? wtf is the triangle supposed to repersent a sail from a 3 year olds drawing of a sail from a sail boat?

I'm wondering if this is a left-over term from the old days where you had a small, triangular window at this location that would pivot. You'd open it a bit to deflect air away from the open main side window or open it more than 90* to draw air into the cabin. That triangular window certainly looks like a sail and catches air like a sail.

But now, it's just the portion of the door frame where the side mirrors bolt, but maybe the name stuck. I would think that the plastic piece we're talking about here might be called a "window sail cover" if anything, because it certainly isn't the whole unit which *might* be called a window sail.

EDIT: Here's a pic of a truck with an old window sail (if that's what it's really called). It is open somewhat in this picture:

Mine is the power mirror version.

Do you know of anybody that sells this pieces setup for tweaters?

My friend has a pair in his civic and they look/sound pretty cool, and would be a nice upgrade for a broken part, instead of just replacing it with the boring OEM.

I did a few searches and all I saw was that you had to fiberglass it yourself. If anybody knows of a pre-made version, please let me know. Thanks :)

You can buy tweets with a post so that you just need to mount the post to the triangle. That's how my BA tweets are. You just rotate it to point in the desired direction.

Here is an example (the pair on the left). As I recall, you really should bounce them off of the windshield rather than blare them in your face, but it's been awhile since I did any audio stuff (9 years since I installed everything in my car)
