Most of the time I turn the ignition and nothing happens. If I keep trying occasionally I get a click from the starter. If I keep trying more occasionally I get a electrical static noise from underneath the stereo somewhere. (starter relay?) If I try for about 10 minutes eventually I can get the car to start.

What should I do? I thought about trying to replace the starter relay but autozone doesnt carry it and I dont live near a mitsu dealer.

Can anyone identify the problem?

well i put the old starter back in and cleaned up the wire contacts in the process. the car starts more often now but still takes 3-4 attempts before it will. any thoughts?

Well I have too many things going on in my life right now and not enough time to deal with this so I took the car to the dealer. They diagnosed it to a bad ignition switch. I figured I'd post this in case somebody else has the same problem some day. Thats about the last thing I would have checked.

Thanks for the replies tho!

i think i might have the same problem... the starter sounds really slugish when i turn the ignition and only if the battery is topped it will occasionaly start.

The sound from what i belive is the relay only clicks once if i try to turn the key...if i keep the key turned it tries to start(slugish) and the relay goes apecrazy(clicking fast) sound like the same thing? in that case i only have to find a place to buy the ignition switch instead of replacing the whole starter..

Best regards
Tobias

my 93 eclipse gs didnt start at all and it made that click noise.it turns out that there was ground wires not connected and the WHOLE timing was realy messed up. after taking it to a mechanic friend .... he said after fixing the grounds he correctly did the timing and the timing belt kept jumping out of place and after putting it in timing 5-6 times:mad: he took off the head and the camshafts hadn't gotten enough oil so the bearings were realy rough and the internals were done:toobad: ......i found a 91 laser turbo and am currently swapping the engine:)
