hi i have a 96 eagle talon tsi with 310hp at 13lbs of boost. i am wondering how much horsepower can the clutch handle

Its the torque that matters, not the HP. But either way, I'd be willing to bet you've already WELL exceeded its limits.

Just out of curiousity, how big of a turbo are you running to get 310hp out of 13psi?

A stock turbo off of what vehicle?

A healthy stock clutch "starts" slipping in the realm of 250-275hp/tq. If you were putting out 310hp, that clutch would be slipping like crazy.

Then the turbo is not stock since 95-99 came with t 25s. But anyway... get an ACT 2100 or 26 00 since you look like you are getting there. If you need that installed call up Applied Force performance. They are on Franklin Street. Phone = 3017330744. They are def the best DSM people around where you live. If you need your car dynoed call up AR Fabrication in Winchester. arfabrication.com

my clutch is all but healthy.when i first got my car the clutch felt fine but after raceing several times i noticed that i was looseing power to the wheels. when my boost gets near to 13psi it starts to slip and i dont get as much power to the wheels as i did when i got my car.if my engine wasnt giving out more power than the clutch can handle than why is my clutch starting to slip now?

Guess that axle added quite a bit of HP.

Exactly what I was thinking. If you are making that much power, which I highly doubt, then you should definitely get an ACT 2600.

Wow. I'll take two of those 14bs please.

Get an ACT2100 or a Slowboy 3500 Heavy Duty clutch. I've had both, and both are excellent clutches and will hold plenty of power and are streetable. I learned to drive on the ACT2100 and laid down about 25 launches on it before my tranny grenaded, where I replaced it with the SBR 3500 since the tranny was out.

And you're not making 310hp on a stock DSM, no matter what turbo you have on it. If you are, I'd love to see the dyno sheets.

alright sorry for being a novice but i need help.i have the following aftermarket parts for my car:
downpipe/3"full exaust(no cat converter)
ported exhaust
boost set at 13psi
new air filter

let me know how much power will each add.i would like to know how much power the engine itself have.

1. Please do not assume you are making 310 HP and then publically post it on the forum boards. It will only lead to flame wars.
2. And, we do not allow bench racing here. If you want to know your engines horsepower, please get it dyno'd.
3. Your 14b turbo is not OE on your car. That is a stock turbo for a 1G DSM.
4. It would help if you used proper grammar, punctuation, and capitalization.

To everyone else: Please stay on topic and keep the flaming and wise cracks off of the forums or your posts will be deleted.

Regarding your stock clutch. It would depend on how much torque you are making and your style of driving. If you're launching from every stop light, it will obviously not last too long.

On that note, I lost my stock clutch with only 59K on the clock. I had every reasonable bolt-on mod possible at the time and I was running a T25 at 16 psi. And I drove it conservativily back then.

It just goes to show that in many cases the stock clutch doesn't like anymore torque than the stock output.

With your current mod list, I would replace the clutch until it begins to slip and/or burns up. When it goes, replace it with an upgraded unit.

Untill my tranny popped, I have been running a healthy stock clutch. The dyno in my profile is on the stock clutch. Granted, it only makes 343 lb/ft of torque becasue of the lag, but the same clutch held my scm61 @ 28 psi and 400whp/378wtq. Fwd is also easier on the clutch, but I think a lot of it is being smart. People kill clutches with much less power. This cluch is also 3 years old.

Mods in profile and mine started slipping after 1000 miles of having a new OEM put in. Pisses me off and I don't even drive it that hard. I had to get it swapped and was tight on money so had to go stock. I'm about to have it done right with a CFDF or the SBR. At 13 PSI I don't think you're approaching the breaking point but if you didn't put the clutch in then who knows how the person before you drove on it so very well could be.
