I'M m Making a custom cold air box to put around my intake right now and am curios if i need to drill some holes in my engine bay or just cut a piece out so i get more airflow. Right now if i put the box in the only spot for air to come in will be threw 3 little screw sized holes in the engine bay to where like side mount would sit. I am afraid to cut it out because water will get up there and i think if i don't i will restrict way to much airflow. Also a little air flow will come in from top side where fuse box is because there is a pretty big gap there. Any thoughts? How much water would it take to hurt my car. O yea if it matters i have an injen intake and my cold air box is made of either aluminum or steel i beleive. Also should i paint it so it absorbs heat or just leave it chrome color.

Thats what Ive wondered about also. I dont see why you couldnt put holes for more airflow. I saw on a guys integra he extended his tube to where it came out behind the bumper.

Yeah i have seen that too. In the tech ara a guy with an eclipse did that too. Mine is a daily driver though and im afriad of all the water that will come up. Also do u have one. Like im not so much worried about getting more airflow im just afraid when i put it on it wil lactually slow me down or ruin my gas mileage. I just want to know i wont loose power.

I don't think the water actually hurts it in the box. This guys car was a daily driver and the water never affected his. I don't have one yet but soon...

ON your stock airbox you can drill out those rivets and get a little more flow, And It shouldnt affect your gas mileage, You wont be starved for Air at higher RPMs then.

Im gonna remove my air box and just put a cone filter in for increased power. I have seen that done so im gonna try it. Just til i get the whole tube and all...

Do this mod only if you have an FMIC and you have re-routed the IC pipes. This leaves a nice large hole where the the SMIC pipe came up through into the engine compartment. The purpose of the cold air intake mod is to eliminate (as much as possible) warm air from the engine compartment getting to the intake and providing it with a nice large source of outside air.

The only thing that concerns me about suckin cool air in is the only intake ive seen for my car when installed in routed right next to the exaust manifold so it seems to me the heat and air from that will suck in?

Am I missing something? I plan on this mod but im gonna run extensions to the front bumper and suck real outside air in.
