Hello Everyone, Im a total newb here I hope this dosn't sound too nubish. I just purchased a 90 Eagle Talon TSI (AWD turbo) cheap and the transmission is cracked in 3 different places. Looks like the previous owners tried to weld the cracks but it just kept cracking again. Anyways, I found this transmission on ebay and was wondering if its worth it. Chime in with any advice you can give.

I dont personally think its worth it for 450 bucks plus shipping. If you look around the classifieds, other forums, and dsmtrader.com you will find much better deals. Ive seen them go for dirt cheap.

Try to find out exactly what model year it is. The later model trannies have more options for upgrades later on if you're interested. Check out www.teamrip.com for what can be done with 'em.

Also find out what zip code it is getting shipped from and get a shipping quote. If it is going cross-country it probably won't be worth it to you.

Otherwise... you should know within 30 days if it is any good or not. The warranty won't include install though.

A hard earned lesson: Going cheap on your tranny is a sure way to end up paying more later. You may want to consider finding a cheap high-mileage tranny in your area and just paying to get it rebuild with some good parts in it. Check the classifieds on the site too. You might find a better deal. Also check DSMTrader.com

Good luck!

Very good point. It also depends what you want to do with your car as well. Are you planning on modding it? Is it a daily driver? No need for a built tranny when you are just using it to commute. I've heard good things about RIP trannies, but for a daily driver tranny at that price is out of most peoples needs in my opinion.

Im looking to make this a sporty Daily driver. I found a hardly used Stage 3 CLutch for dirty cheap and Im going to drop that into whatever tranny I can find. Are there any other sources around the NYC area that you know of?

Thanks for all the info guys. :D

Alright the deal gets even better. Turns out hes a lot closer than I thought. Hes in Jersey about an hours drive away. So no need to ship it.

This tranny will cost $450 flat. Good price? I got a friend with his own shop who owes me a favor and is willing to help me get it into the car for free.

So this leads to another question:
How heavy is this thing? I know its heavy but can me and a few of my friends lift it into the trunk of the car? Can I put it int he trunk of my car (Camry)? Or do I need someone with a truck or something?

For future reference don't bump your posts. Mod's will close it. 450 still seems expensive. Ive bought a few tranny's from people off of DSM trader and have paid a couple hundred dollars and have had no problems. If you feel confident with it, do it. Check the vendors on the site here for flywheels. Someones always offering a deal on ACT's. The tranny isn't too heavy. I'm a somewhat built 19 year old and i can lift a manual tranny into and out of a car by myself. If your with some friends you'll have no problem. It'll fit in your Camry too.
