I am getting ready to do the head gasket on my 94 TSI motor. I am just curious as to know if there is any specific brand of head gasket I should be purchasing that is more durable than others or if it really won't matter. I intend on running higher boost and what not. Also I would like to get some head studs for my motor as well and I am wondering who makes good head studs for our cars? ARP? Can you use head studs over again or are they a one time use only? Anyone got any links to a good head gasket kit (with all the gaskets for the head) or some nice head studs?

Headgasket-Cometic or Mits Multi layer steel.
Headstuds/bolts,- Stock can't be reused, arp studs are the standard besides the stock.
The quality headgaskets dont come in kits.
Any good DSM shop will have the ARP studs/gasket in stock.

If you use an MLS gasket (recommended) you have to get the head re-surfaced to spec or it'll leak on you: http://www.babcox.com/editorial/ar/eb30320.htm

Believe me, I'm in the same boat. I have a *suspision* that my head gasket is leaking a *tiny* bit. -To check it, I have to pull the head. If I pull the head, I have to get it resurfaced and the gasket replaced. If I'm going to have to send it to a machinist to be resurfaced, I may as well upgrade the valves, guides, seals, etc.

That's the way it goes with DSM's. They decide their own upgrade paths. (I don't even have exhaust yet!)

Good thing I have alot of money to blow on this car! I know what you mean though, I really do :) My Evo was the same way!
