Ok.

I ran into a quick Focus SVT the other day. Went from a roll and he stayed right with me. I was pretty amazed. His only performance mods were intake/exhaust. He's the guy that runs Focusrush.com.

I posted this run on Dragva.com and had a few tell me that my car should be quicker. From a dig against the guy I'm sure I would have left him behind. He said as much himself. But he is dyno proven to the wheels at 154hp.

I have the free mods and a Clutchmasters stage 1, that's it for performance adders. Add to that the car is 15 years old and I can't see why it's hard to believe the Focus kept up with me, from a roll.

The biggest question I have is that someone over there claimed you can get the Gen 1's up to 220hp AT THE WHEELS on free mods alone.

I called the flag and said that there's no way to put 220 to the wheels on free mods alone. Then we got into a nice debate on what free mods are. They said a boost controller is free. Whatever............

ANYWAY, can you get a STOCK Gen 1 up to 220hp at the wheels on free mods alone?

Thanx for the help.

Here's the link for anyone who wants to read through it:

There isn't much of a limit on power from free mods. Depends what you call free? I'm guessing $'s. But you could get over 300hp if you know what your doing and you have the tools and the time. If you don't think a boost controller is free or worth the money, put it like this, would you rather work on your car 8 hours and get 10 hp or work at McDonalds 8 hours to buy the stuff and get 50 hp. Sometimes paying for things is the cheapest way to go

Going with the strict definition of a "free mod".

If someone gives me a turbo kit for free, is that a free mod? No. If I make a 5 dollar boost controller with parts from Home Depot, is that a free mod? No.

I'm talking about getting a gen 1 awd Tsi to put 220hp to the wheels on free mods alone. I'm saying it can't happen. But I'm being told by some peeps on Dragva that it can.

What's the verdict?

There is no way in hell you can even obtain 200 wheel hp with free mods, it cant happen unless you know some people that know some people that shot some people and robbed them of some parts, on free mods alone your lucky to get 20-30 flywheel hp, going from 195-210 at the flywheel to 220 at the wheels would require in an awd atleast an extra 60-80 ponies at the flywheels thats compensating for the 13-18 percent drive line power loss, and all the other factors that contribute to planting h/p on the ground.

That's just what I was thinking, and repeated over and over again on Dragva..................

1) Unbolt exhaust.
2) Remove lower honeycomb.
3) Pinch WG vacuum line/poke a hole
4) Pray to the DSM Gods that it holds.

hahahahahahahahaha

I don't think I'm willing to go THAT far.....................

...............but that would definitely be free.
