Buying 91 Tsi AWD

Hey I am new here. I am thinking about buying a 91 AWD Tsi. It has 100k miles on it. I searched the forums and couldnt find my answer to my specific situation. What are some things I should look for on the car before I buy it? Its slightly modded with full exhaust, newer turbo, and MBC. I think the engine and tranny are ok, my concern lies with my rear locking up and killing myself. I am willing to put a little bit of money into it. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

Is the rear locked now? Or are you worried about it happening? My 90 AWD is all original in the rear w/ 176k on it. I wouldn't worry to much if I were you.

DSMs drive in the winter like they were made for it. They ride really nice, lots of traction and handling. My dsm seemed to go better than most trucks in the snow.

Anyway, I had a 91 tsi awd with 180K on it. The rear dif was great. Orginal and never been replaced. As long as you don't jack the e-break to much, don't tow it on two wheels, and change the fluid when your suppose to it should be fine*.

*Talking about unmodded cars

Well what about modded cars? What are some things to do to ensure that I wont lock up and die? I heard there was a recall for something in the transfer case? My friend with a mustang locked up and it is a scary experience.

i wouldnt worry about the rear end, my rear has like 180,000 on it and its fine..the recall is a leak.....as long as you get it fixed and make sure it has fluid, you will be ok there too
