Just wondering who does the work on you guys cars? or do you all do the tuning an performance mods yourself??

oh yea Kenny Tran from jotech motorsports works on mine. :D

Me and my brother(ford mechanic) are the only ones who have worked on my car thus far and will probably stay that way unless maybe my buddy craig comes over to help with stuff eventually.

I do all my own work with the exception of the drivetrain. My brother does that. ;)

I'm the only one that touches her . . . except when it comes to wheel alignments and factory recalls. :D

I dont think I have ever really done any work on my car come to think of it. Maybe took off a few bolts or something. Koolade9 (aka Blake) does ALL my work, I am the driver with the money! :thumb:

Me and a guy that has built his own 97 gst into a 6bolted, awd tranny(did mine aswell), 515whp monster. He has plenty of DSM knowledge to do anything. The only thing he wont do is the complete awd conversion. Just the AWD Tranny in a FWD DSM.

That is it. I would let others help out, but a select few.

me, a select few friends, and dynamic motorsports here in PA. they've built quite a few monster DSM's, and everytime i go in there, it seems another one is up on the lift or sitting out front just begging for me to take it out for a spin :D (i'm friends with several of the people that work there, so i get to test drive customers cars sometimes when they're done doing the work to them)

EDIT: and one kid that never will again. he helped me change a few minor things on my cavalier back when i still had it, and i had gotten to drive his car a few times, so i let him take it for a spin one night. I don't care who you are, you NEVER beat on somebody's car unless they tell you it's alright. I almost threw him out the door and jumped into the driver's seat while he was driving.

OMG

Nothing against you, I am sure you are a nice guy and all. But a reputable shop should not be letting unneeded "TEST DRIVES" happen. Atleast not from unemployed people. I would be pissed to see a stranger that had no reason to be in my car, driving it around for a "spin". As you can tell most of us (even YOU) are ANAL about WHO and HOW our cars are touched. For me to take my "Pride and Joy" to ANY shop would be giving SOOOOOOO much trust I could not explain over the internet.

For the sake of Dynamic Motorsports of PA, I would not put up further post like the one you wrote, as to help keep them in business. They could lose alot more than you think for that type of behavior.

the owner of the car usually rides along, or else one of the mechanics does. they usually take it for a drive to see if there's anything else wrong with the car, or if it needs tuned better.

i gave up on mechanics, and wanted to do things for myself. i have to have shops do alignment though.

My Grandfather, My Father, myself, and anyplace that is held liable for damages. Probably a couple locals that i know, know what they are doing.

Myself, and some select friends... That's all.. I won't take my DSM anywhere where I don't know who will be working on my car personally, and this is only for Alignments and Tuning. Plus I usually stay and watch exactly what they do... :thumb:

I'm taking automotive classes so all I do is work on my car for credit. And they have alignment machines and everything else that I get to use.

me my friend cuong1106 a member here at the tuner and my brother in law who's a mechanic, I wouldn't trust anyone else I mean I don't even let other people drive my car in fear of them beating on it.....

Well, it's probably expensive, but one dealership I trust has done all my work. They picked up and performed the transfer case recall when the car was new. They are small, the staff has not changed since I bought my car, and they've kept her running like new all these years.

I have one tire shop where I buy wheels and tires - but I make certain to watch as they work. I am fussy about how much pressure I run in my tires, and I also specify just how much torque I want on the lug nuts.

Last rotation, I watched as the "tech" used his air gun to zip my lug nuts tight, then, (giving him benefit of the doubt for being ignorant and not contrary), watched as he went around the car with his torque wrench. Of course, the gun had already torqued the nuts so tight that the wrench had absolutely no effect.

I requested the service writer to make him back off each nut and then tighten it properly to the proper torque using the wrench for the last few "twists."

Stuff like that irritates me. The guy had taken the time to read the special instructions on his work order, so, he dutifully set the wrench to the requested setting, but, he obviously has no clue about how the thing works.

The techs at the dealership that I trust are very sharp guys (about lots of things, not just cars), are super sharp about cars, and especially knowledgeable about my GSX.

When I take my car to the dealership, I regularly converse before and after service with the service writers and the techs. They seem to undersand and appreciate that I've spent a lot of time in my car, and, while I may not be conversant with technical terms, they know that if I describe a problem or a noise, it's not in my head, something needs attention.

Often, I'm far off base as to what I think a problem might be, but I'm pretty sensitive to my car - when it's running right and when something is amiss.

I'm sure this would not be possible at some of the bigger dealerships - that's why I would never take my car for service there.

I have done all of the modifications myself except putting on my turbo back exhaust. in the future though, i hope to have a friend who actually knows with hands on experience. i don't want to mess up something like a b16g turbo because i installed it without keeping an eye out for something else unconnected.<------example...
