Injen style intake or 3" intake?/ AFPR

Hey,
is there really any difference between a injen style intake pipe(flows more than stock) and a 3" intake pipe, in regards of performance gains?

Also when do you need an AFPR?? why? why not?

It would only really give you noticable gains if you have a turbo w/ a 3" inlet.
