Best oil and transmission fluid?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

For starters, you got a Chrysler tranny that only requires ATF+4 since it's an FM -frictioned modified - fluid. that works with those special felt lined syncros in there. Other fluids doesn't have the FM to work with those syncros.

Oils - 20w50 racing oil - dino or synthetic...your brand. Some users use Brad Penn racing oils, Royal Purple, et.al. - just something you have to find out for yourself that works best with your setup there..

I personally run AMSOIL in my car. We tore down my brother's LT1 camaro for a 383 stroker setup he was wanting to do. Ran AMSOIL for around 100,000 on the stock 350 and it showed minimal to no signs of wear in the combustion chambers or on the bearings, and this is doing oil changes over 20,000+ miles.

There are other great synthetic products out there as well. True synthetic oils don't become "syrupy" like under extreme cold conditions either.

If you have an automatic thats a a604, use MOPAR atf+4 that be found at walmart :) Since you have a built engine forged internals, budget wise use MOBIL 1 full synthetic or Royal Purple. both can be found at advance or autozone.

There is one other besides amsoil its called ENOS that is sold at again advance or autozone.

Write down different oil brands and do a price compare.

The Oem Mopar atf+4 is a must for the automatics in the 420a.

High performance racing oils require higher zinc levels among other things. Research it. But I would only use Brad Penn in 1500mi-2000mi intervals. As far as tranny fluid, see if Redline makes a fluid suitable for your trans, they make awesome lubricants.

Heard of similar teardowns with motors running AMSOIL ..

One story: 1978, 350 Chevy block in a big blazer with over 200k miles on it with using AMSOIL. Motor shop tore the block down, checked stuff over-both heads and block, and put it back together (just had to do valve seals-just something you can't get away from) and told the owner to keep doing what he's been doing with AMSOIL changes...just that you still have to change the filter at the ususal 3 to 5k oil change times..
