Alright to start off with, I bought this turbo rebuilld kit for my Evo 3 TD05

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-parts-feedback-reviews/377239-turbo-rebuild-kit.html

So far everything seemed a good fit until I got to the journal bearings. When I mic'd them they were almost a full millimeter smaller. Do I need to use a reamer to widen them out a bit? OR do they need pressed on and the size difference is normal? Keep in mind my old journal bearings were worn so I expected a slightly smaller fit.

Any help would be great, this brought my rebuild to a standstill.

I'm not sure if I messed up myself, but I rebuilt mine with that ecrater garbage a while back and the tolerances were f'in horrendous. There was minor side to side to start, no in and out. After the "rebuild" I had 3x the slop I started with. I was so disgusted I just tossed the kit in the garbage and got a kit from g-pop shop and never looked back.

You shouldn't have to modify anything i just rebuilt my 16g turbo with a kit from ecrater and it worked out perfectly.

When you went to put the journal bearing on the shaft, did it slide on without much resistance or did you have to press it on?

I dont wanna press them and damage my shaft, and I wanna be careful if I have to buy bigger journal bearings so as not to go to big and re create more shaft play.

Last one I did I had to clean everything up really good and polished up the shaft really good with some mothers due to some oil cooking and then evey thing went together just fine but a millimeter off seems like alot

The housing is stamped EVO 3, make Mitsubishi, and then a serial number. So I would think its not a knock off.

Anyone know a source that sells journal bearings outside of a kit?

MHI rebuild kits do not rebuild Chinese Evo III turbochargers.

You have a choice- buy another parts kit to get the right journal bearings....at which point you'll be into this for almost $100; or resell the TraderGreg kit you just bought to someone with a MHI turbo, and buy a new Chinese Evo III 16G from eBay for a shade less than $200.

Hmm, I measured the trust plate, o rings, and misc. seals and everything else has an OEM fit to the turbo. So I think Ill just order the T3/T4 bearings and hope for the best. Thanks a lot guys.
