Running lean at higher RPM...

Ok guys I'm really confused on this one.

For fuel setup I have a walbro 255, and FIC 1000s. So on pump 93, and 15psi on a 16G I should be fine!

But according to my log, I'm not so fine.

I just ran about one tank of E85 through my car and If I DUMPED fuel into the 3000+ range I could run a 10.0 AFR until about 4000 and then it would start spiking and I would stop around 14.0 AFR @ 5500ish.

So I thought maybe I was running out of injector since it was E85. I switched over to 93 today and even with dumping fuel (look at the sliders in the log) I'm running a 15.0 .

So what is my problem? Can someone check out my log and help me out? I don't think my wideband is bad because the narrowband is lining up. Although my AFRest is NOT at all, says I'm running super rich, which is probably causing my ECu to pull fuel, even though I'm telling it to dump it.

Can someone help me out!

Also you'll notice my global settings are off for 1000cc. Well to be honest I can't remember if they are 1000 or 850. when I started it up on 93 it ran like crap, so I punched in numbers as if they were 850 and it smoothed out a lot. so I'm still not sure. But my IDC never goes above 80.

Edit: I also realize my TPS was only at 70...but according to my DA Tables it should still be shooting for the 10.0 range.

ALSO another question. If I was running that lean...why was I not knocking?

You need to update your v3 software to the newest released v3.21.40 and also do a firmware update.

Your TPS is showing your only going into 70% throttle which I'm sure isn't the case since you haven't made any changes to your TPS adjustments. Watch this Initial Setup video to learn how to adjust your TPS so it logs accurately in v3.

ZERO all your fuel sliders because there is no reason to have them like that, I'm guessing you were adding fuel trying to richen up your AFR's? You've got plenty of injector and fuel pump to fulfill proper fuel requirements needed to safely run that 16g on 93oct at any boost level. Check your base fuel pressure (43.5psi) because it seems like you might have a dieing fuel pump, fpr, or maybe a kink in your fuel line thats somehow preventing flow.

Your probably not seeing any knock because you got off the throttle when it dipped really lean and you timing advance/boost is rather conservative.

A 12.1:1 AFR is lean but your running low boost and low timing, you also let off the gas at 5.5k. Don't worry about why your car isn't knocking worry about why your cars going lean in the first place, do as I suggested above and let me know what you find out.

Well I am at 37psi for fuel pressure (stock for 1G), and my fuel pump is brand new. So I'm assuming it has to be the kink. My confussion comes from the fact that I was able to run a 10:1 AFR on E85, which requires MORE fuel (for AFR, and for E85). So if I could put more fuel through my setup for E85, why would it be less for 93. I'm thinking MAYBE the fuel filter, since the E85 was run through, clearing out any gunk. I might try that when it gets nicer out. Hard to work on the car when its cold out.

Your right about your fp being a bit lower than the 2g, good catch and sorry I missed that when I posted it. If you have run E85 in the past on a paper fuel filter its possible the fuel filter is leaning out your AFR's when you start going into boost. That E85 eats paper, I ran my stock filter for 5 months on E85 and once I replaced it with a metal element filter I looked at the stock filter and it was eating the paper.

Just becareful when your playing with those union fittings on the bottom of the filter housing, if you try to loosen the wrong side you'll twist the hardline.

You've got to use common sense when you run into problems like this, its nothing that can't be fixed. Theres only so much in the fuel system that can cause you to go lean going into boost. If your injectors and pump make sense for the fuel type and turbo your running then you've got to look for a restriction in the system. Checking base fuel pressure and then replacing your fuel filter, if you haven't in a while or never would make sense. Its also possible the fuel pump isn't getting enough voltage in the higher RPM's, thats why a fp rewire is a must.

Its also possible your getting a false airflow signal from your MAF if its going bad in the higher Hz range.

Right, I totally understand. I just hate the guessing game. Especially when I don't have much time as it is, or money, lol. But I really do appreciate all the help you have been giving me.

hey guys im bumping this up because i have a similar problem, my setup is gm maf with maft, 660cc inj, e316g @ 20-22psi, safc 2, wally 255 . no matter what i do when i get between 5500-6000 the car goes from a 11.0 AFR (what im aiming for) and rises quickly to 14.0+ so i let off. ive tried pulling fuel (to see if it was a rich misfire) and ive tried adding it but no matter whta i do it seems to stay the same.

could the pump be faulty? i read if wallys get real loud or change pitch they can be bad, my pump changes sound depending on wether the lights are on or if my turn signals are on it goes up and down with the on/off of the turn signal blinker. do i just need to rewire the pump?

Rewire the pump and if its still going lean check fuel pressure and replace the fuel filter if pressures good. The pitch of the pump will change with voltage changes, its worse without the rewire thats why its HIGHLY suggested. Most rewire write-ups you see have you running the 12v power wire off the battery, a buddy and I run ours to the 12v signal coming off the alternator and notice more voltage to the pump in higher RPMs.

okk sweet, got the stuff to rewire it today, the pump is definately the issue, i filled the tank and i guess the fuel was able to keep it cooler so it didnt lean out today. so im going to rewire tomorow and see how it does
