Well a few weeks ago I was playing around and the throttle hung open on me so I made a quick but idiotic decision and pushed in the clutch: ohdamn: shortly after I hear a rod beating the hell out of my 7 bolt.
I have always said if I have to go into the engine big time I'm just going to put a 6 bolt in it. Well the time has come. I picked up one with no miles tonight. new lower end, arp mains, arp head studs, ported and polished head, new water pump, balance shaft deleted, and it's .20 over:hellyeah:

Get everything checked. I would never rely on somebody else's workmanship unless it was from the top 5 (maybe 6) reputable engine builders in North America.

oh yeah it is being dismantled for a once over on everything. I'm thinking about evo 8 valves and springs too, any thoughts on that?

I'm with Justin on if they were free or you already had them. There was a thread floating around that maybe BogusSVO had posted on checking used valve spring pressures that physically looked fine and may have even measured dimension wise within serviceable limits but the actual spring pressure was crap. So if you get used ones I would check them out.

I hope you got your sticking throttle fixed. It would be a shame to grenade another one.

Hopefully thats exactly what it is. Rebuilt engines for sale are often suspiciously always "brand new with 0 miles," "idled once," or "just driven around the block." Check it out, would have been nice to do before you bought it, but theres no time like the present.

yeah when I talked to my buddy he said the same thing about the evo springs. I looked at the link provided but I'm not a mechanic and it's a bit greek to me.

my buddy owns a performance shop, he will be doing the work, I'm just researching on my own and bounce things I've read off of him. Don't worry we are tearing it down for a once over on everything and torqued back together correctly.

I have two 1g throttle bodies and a ton of other parts to use

It looks like the engine you bought already had the balance shafts deleted. Why did you buy a second stud? The engine looks really nice though.

yes the balance shafts are already deleted. I bought the engine and he gave me everything that he had to go with it. He was going to put it in a rear wheel drive project and never did
