I think I'm done with my 2G. Opinions needed.

This has been on the back of my mind for a while now. My car has become much more than I ever thought it would have. I love it to pieces, but it just doesn't fit my lifestyle anymore. It's a really fast street car, that I hardly drive anymore. I don't cruise around alot like I used to, and so it just sits in the garage for the most part. And that's probably for the better, because it's only a matter of time before it would get me into trouble. But I'm reallt beginning to feel like all of my hard work isn't going to pay off except for a bit of pride in what I've created.

I don't have any intentions of getting out of the DSM game. I love building hot, nasty speed. I just need something to do with such a car when it's finished. I want a race car instead of a street car. I have my eye on a caged 1G that I'm considering picking up. The goal would be around 700-800 WHP in a lightweight chassis and I would have something that I can go racing with and be competitive with the local V8 cars. I would definitely compound turbo it too. :D I really just think I'll enjoy a race car more than what I currently have.

I just feel like I've come to an end with my 2G and I'm ready for something different. Now the other problem is- what to do with my 2G? I really doubt anybody would be interested in paying me $15K+ for it complete. I could part it out down to a bare chassis, but then I'd feel bad for ruining a flawless '99 chassis. Or, I could convert it back to stock, sell off all of the aftermarket stuff, and sell the complete chassis. So many options...

Give me your opinions, guys.

Hell, if I lived in Michigan I would pay the 15K straight up for it:thumb:

thats such a beautiful car....post it on here and on Craigslist....what the hell ya never know someone might call you tomorrow with 15g's cash and want a test drive

On craigslist in my area there was a fully customized Talon, the guy put 50K into the car and was selling for 7K. It's been up for over a month.

I'd say keep it haha. I wish i had that kind of coin, I'd love a nice clean chassised 600 horsepower GSX. There was a built 2G with forged everything here in MN on craigslist with 65k mint body, and tons of shit done, and of course by the time i called on it, it had just been sold the day before:(

Sell it to me! Do you take monopoly dollars?

Seriously though, I think you should keep it, you are not going to get anywhere near what you put in to it back and its always nice to have something you built yourself and be proud in that.

You will regret it since you put so much hard work in it. I would hate to see it parted out or given to the wrong person. Why not make it a track car instead there are tons of track 1G cars out there.

Don't sell it bro, its not worth throwing away all that work. Keep it around, make it into a track car and have some fun with it. Even if you sold it off, it would be a shame for the car to go to someone who wouldn't respect it as much as you have over the years, think about it before you do anything. Get in the car, take it for a drive for an hour or 2 and then see how you feel about selling it off.

Iv been down this route before although my car wasn't nearly as built as yours. Another Difference was I wanted to get in another platform. "Audi s4" don't judge. But if I was you sell off all your parts, put the shell up for sale or put it back to stock. The body that clean will seel quick, and your popularity will help the parts move quicker.

I like the idea of a 1g cage race car with a compound setup.

But anything you choose will turn out great, so my two cents gl

I considered making this my racecar, but I think I'd rather have a 1G for a race car. It would cheaper to build a 1G too. Plus, I've owned my 2G since 2002 - I really wouldn't mind having something different to look at and work on.

I think i would have regretted getting rid of it a few years ago, but I don't think I would at this point. IDK...

I'm in the same boat as you. I've owned my 2G for about 3-4 years now.

After all those years and the time I spent slowly progressing it I have come to a stomp.

I myself am considering a 1G. Seems like a more stable car and more aggressive street look.

Good luck either way you choose.

I'm also in that position now. I flipped an S4 a while ago. It was a 2001.5 I fell in love with that car hard. I needed the money but I would have gave my left nut for it. That's the first car in a long time that's really taken my attention away from the DSMs. It's an amazing car.

As far as the GST I would drop the motor in the 1g and any other goodies you've piled up.

never sell that beast because more than likely some spoiled kid is gonna end up with and total it

ya that car has so much potential is not even funny, but its also expensive to modify.

never regret spending money on things that make you happy, or are you passion. money is money cant take it with you in the end. id rather have the experience, and story in the end.

I know I'm still new here, but you're first paragraph really makes it sound like you're not really enjoying the car like you may have used to or ever will again.

You rarely drive it, it doesn't fit what you're into anymore, and it sounds like you're just spending money to have a cool decoration. If it's not getting any use, what's the point? DSMs aren't collector pieces or anything (yet?:sneaky:). We have our cars to use them, not to stare at them.

Everyone's different of course, but after a while big projects just lose their luster to me. This may seem like a weird comparison, but since I was 13, my dad and I worked on a model train set in the basement. We worked on it all through my teens and even through my college years we would work on it. By the end it was huge and hundreds of hours (and dollars) had been poured into it. But after a while it just grew old and we parted it out.

To each his own I suppose, but I think you should wait a bit longer and start a new big project. After you're a little into your new project, see how you feel.

Good luck, it's a beautiful machine.

Maybe I don't understand. So you want to get rid of your 2g because it sits in the garage and you don't cruise it like you used to (which I am with you), but you want a 1g with a 700hp goal? So what's going to change in regards to sitting in the garage? Is the higher HP 1g going to be cruise-able whilst the 2g was not? What is changing to a 1g going to do?

I've seen this for years, and I still don't get it.

In his op, he says he is looking to build a race car not a street car. He is not looking to build a 700hp street 1g, we all know that wouldnt be a fun street car. It would be for a few min, but then it would get annoying very fast LOL.
