So, this is the Worlds' largest machine gun shoot. It's hosted in West Point, Kentucky at the Knob Creek gun range. For any firearms enthusiasts, this is a candy store. You can buy just about anything, and there's always someone on the range shooting just about anything. It's just fun to see some of these things that most people would never see on a normal day-to-day basis.
Anyway, this was my third time attending with my father. He's been going there twice a year for many, many years (I sometimes can't afford going). They also host on-sight pistol matches, shotgun matches, sub-machinegun jungle crawls, etc... This year, I brought along my buddy Sewey (sewey_gsx on this site) and we decided to both enter the pistol match for the first time. We did pretty decent. My score was 98.25 sec (second best out of the five of us that went together). Sewey ran out of ammo in the last stage and was consequently hit with several time penalties, so he didn't score as well. IIRC, he was around 130 sec. I'm still waiting for all of the time to be posted online, but I believe I'm going to be in the middle of the road.
This was my first ever pistol match, and I had a blast (pun intended
). I can't wait to go back next spring to do it again. I was a bit nervous because I had just bought a new pistol one week prior and due to consistent bad weather for the past 2 weeks, I was only able to get out one time to shoot it. So, I was competing with a gun that I wasn't completely familiar with yet, but I guess I did OK. My new gun is a Glock 23c, by the way. Sewey picked up the same one a couple weeks ago, but his is the non-ported model. It's an excellent pistol for anyone in the market.
We didn't get very many pictures because I forgot my camera and my dad brought his with a dead battery and no charger. The only pictures we got were with Sewey's phone.
Here's a shot of the first stage of the pistol match:
The primary range is where most guys shoot. And it's mostly fully automatic rifles. The targets usually consist of random older model cars and boats, and appliances like hot water heaters, refrigerators, and furnaces, and smaller short-range targets like bowling pins and pumpkins. At one point, they called a cease fire and let anyone walk out onto the muddy range to inspect the damage. Most of the larger targets get completely destroyed. They hide sticks of dynamite in them to add to the fun, and that usually incinerates the target after letting it burn out. Sewey and I walked out there, and I quickly recognized some of the mangled body lines of one of the targets.
It's a 1GA DSM - I'm pretty sure it's an Eclipse, not a Talon or Laser.

Here's another picture of what's left of a target. It was a boat. Now it's a melted pile of fiberglass with a V8 engine sitting on top of the pile.
Here's a few of my pops during the shotgun match on Sunday morning. He's using a pre-ban Benelli M1 (12 gauge, semi-automatic, 7+1, factory ghost rings and pistol grip):

Overall, I had a great time. I only had to spend a couple hundred bucks, so it was fun to get away for the weekend without breaking the bank. I'll be back there doing it again next April. Did any of you DSMers here attend?
