jjrock5 GSX 'under construction'

So some of you know that I used to have a 97 GST, I did a pretty big build from March to June 09. After I finished, I was very satisfied but I got somewhat bored with the car so I took a HUGE plunge and decied to sell it a few weeks ago. I finally found a buyer a couple of days ago. I was heart broken to see her drive off while the new owner did a WOT out of my driveway...
Well thats the past, but whats important is the present. As of yesterday, I am the proud owner of my first GSX!!

Check it out:

looks like it's just bigger wheels to me. It looks like the engine bay was submerged in water at some point in time.

Ok Idk whats going on or maybe its only happening to me but as of right now I just saw that I had two replies to me thread since I did a search of my own thread. I click on the thread and all I see is my first post but the replies dont show. This is also happening to another thread I just created. Its called 'Is this a real HKS bov?'

Is this happening to anybody else?

Maybe PM me since I may not even be ably to look at any replies. Thanks

Yeah but I ACTUALLY know what that does. The car came like that. Its not being driven at the moment. That will get fixed soon. As will all the maintenance.

Very Nice Find! i like it!

Here is what i would do...

Belts, oil, plugs, wires, recirculate bov, scrub and clean engine bay, undercoat/clean the underside of the car/wheel wells. fix any rust, get rid of that tiny intake filter (k&n oval FTW!) looks like your vc gasket is leaking...

and pictures of the interior?

Thanks for the compliments man!

I work part time at a small oil change place so I just replaced the engine, manual tranny, transfer case, and rear diff oil today. I also did a gumout 2 step fuel system cleaner and replaced the pcv valve. I also did a full charge of my A/C.

I also just ordered a few mins ago a HKS recirc kit, and 1g BOV flange to HKS flange from extremepsi. I went to partsdinosaur.com to get all timing pulleys, and Gates Timing and BS belt, as well as a valve cover gaslet. I have a FPIK kit from my old 2g so the tiny filter will be gone soon.

I also plan on cleaning the engine bay. Any suggestions on how to do it? Maybe powerwashing it?

Oh Ill have to take interior pics, its all black leather, thats one big reason why I bought it. haha But I think t somebody did a swap to it prior.

love the white 2gs man. Partsdinosaur.com is AWESOME. Always get my balance shaft elimination kits from him. I always liked the HKS ssqv. I've never had a problem with not recirculating even though EVERYONE on here will tell you to recirculate. Just sayin...

nice on the black interior. I wouldn't power wash it just because I'd be afraid of braking fragile sensors or getting exposed electrical wet, but that's just me, I use engine de-greaser and wipe down a few times after. Yeah that bov thing is how my car came too, I am getting a evo8 bov this week sometime.

Yea I think I may throw some degreaser on the bottom end of the engine, where theres not many fragile sensors and powerwash that. Then, Ill use the same degreaser and scrub the hell out of it by hand. Thanks for the tip!

I believe this car has been in NE for most of its life. As you can see, there IS rust but it is actually somewhat minimal. I can deal with this. My GST had more than this one and I was able to work with it.

I cant wait to get out of work and start cleanin up my bay!! Im like a little kid with a new toy. haha

Ill post up pics of the progress later.

that turbo is huge! its a 99 correct? than didnt they COME with black interior? and a GSX is pretty much guaranteed black interior. but if you wanna go back to gray i will be more than happy to swap with you. :] yeah use brake cleaner and simple green to clean the engine bay. and pick up to spray bombs of rustoleum engine enamel (black, white, w.e) and paint the rusted stuff, dirty stuff. make it look good!

GSTRyder Im trying to eliminate ALL rust but we'll se what happens.

Steve, I agree with you, I think most 99 came with black interior but I say this because the top is gray but idk

Nick, lol, yeah I bet it would suck it in if it was mounted to my engine and spooling. lol My goals IF I put the HX on is 450 whp with the DSM housing and 38 mm recirc wastegate. Itll be tough and expensive but you only live once. haha

I went out shopping earlier and Im ready for battle tomorrow. Im ridding myself of all grease stains in the bay...I hope!

I also decided to paint my VC black with silver letters, we'll see how it comes out.

I pretty much finished up all the engine bay clean up but it went into the night so Ill take pics tomorrow.

While I was at it I removed the intake for cleaning, painting, and to exchange that retarded mini filter with the FIPK that I have. Notice the broken dipstick that I also replaced.

Sweet deal, The upper strut I think is just backwards...see the left side up higher? that should probably go over the timing belt.

You mean the bottom is gray right? Yeah, it's supposed to be that way. My 99 is the same way where the sides of the center console is gray.

Nice find and enjoy having traction when you get some hp goin' through that 4g63.

What color do you think I should paint it?

Oh and I meant to say that the headliner is gray as well. I'm not really feeling it so I may strip ALL gray pieces in the car and paint them. I want to go for the murdered out look. Haha
