I was on my way home from my girlfriend's house and coming up to the 3-way stop they just installed almost a month ago on Lockhart and Burgess Road in Walker, Louisiana. There's a sign less than 1/4 mile away from the new stop sign saying, " Stop Ahead." As well as a flashing light on top of the STOP sign, which I have never seen before on any other STOP sign. I was almost done with the maintenance and this happens. I was coming to a stop at the stop sign. I made my complete stop and saw the truck coming the other way, looking like he was slowing down to make his stop, at his stop sign. Nope. I made my turn and slam. It was like a dream and I didn't know what happen. Air bags and dust everywhere. After the daze I hear yelling and cussing. The guy had the nerve to come running out of his truck hollering and cussing asking why I didn't see him and how his girlfriend is 11 weeks pregnant. Not even caring how I was. I fully get out of the car, look at him and look back at the stop sign he missed and said, " You know there's a stop sign right there!" In all amazement he says, "Oh!......... Dude, I don't have a liscence or insurane. I'm going to jail!" He was driving his grandfather's truck, which thankfully had insurance.

It just so happens there was a cop there and he says he might have it all on tape. Not really necessary since the cop was there and can say what happened.

Since the guy had a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 he was able to drive away. All he needs is a new bumper probably. I was just about to order the timing belt kit the next day when the check went through. Huh.. :sosad:

I don't know what to do. I'm sure his insurance company is going to total it. I just can't see it go. I tried looking at other 2g GSX but it's so hard to imagine it gone.

I took a lot of pictures of it today. I'll provide a link to them. The frame is bent on the passenger side. No windows are blown out, somehow. The driver's side is in perfect condition. The engine is crooked in the engine bay. Huh...the tires didn't even have 3,000 miles on them. Just got done with replacing the o2 sensor and fuel filter a few weeks before, as well as PCV valve, which by the way took all of 30 seconds to do but took 7 weeks to be delivered from DSMParts.com but it wasn't their fault it was MastaMinds.com which is a company that DSMParts go through but enough of that ramble.

I just don't know what to do. I have to wait for the insurance company to call me back after they're done with the investigation, which should be Monday. Then the appraiser from the other guy's insurance will come out and tell me its totaled and try to give me a 5,000 dollar check for my losses. I really want my car to be fixed but I'm sure thats not going to happen. It won't be the same and will be really hard to find another 98-99 White GSX in excellent condition and all stock. Any comments and/or advice is appreciated.

If anyone needs the pictures to be hosted somewhere else then let me know.

Well, you will likely be able to buy your old car back for really cheap, extra parts right there.

There are plenty of cars out there on the market, just look, I am sure you could find a hell of a deal.

Yea, thats what has me so worried. I don't know if i'll be able to find another one that was kept up so well before I bought it. I had to drive 9 hours up to Nashville, TN to get this one.

that really sucks, like the others said ##'ll be able to buy ## car back from the insurance for dirt cheap or they might not even take it from you, my friend got hit they gave him 1200 for is piece of junk accord and let him keep it, and sold it off for parts, hopefully they let u keep it, then u can use it as a parts car, hopefully the tranny etc are in good shape

I was thinking that since the front passenger is slammed in that it could have messed up the tranny or possibly shoved in the crank but I don't know. I would love to keep the car as a parts car but I'll see next week sometime.

if you can proove how much you paid for the car and all work done to it (receipts, statements, etc) you can forego the insurance altogether and sue him directly. If i were you I'd hire a lawyer, and take it to court.

it would be trivial to go through all of that with the cost of a lawyer and court fees

Do it yourself custom front frame LOL ya that sucks dude i feel your pain only i kept mine alive.

Get checked out by a doctor, every little pain and ache, there needs to be a record of it. I've seen it happen a dozen times over, people don't feel hurt and then a month later they've got horrible back pain and can't work. A car is just a car no matter how sentimental it is.

damn, hopefully u can find a nice new one to build back up.

DUDE, plain and simple, get a lawyer if you haven't already. As the guy above said, if it was a hard hit, you will likely feel some pain in the neck from extending too far too fast. It happened to me when I got rearended during stopped rush-hour traffic. Got a lawyer, he took care of everything, I didn't have to jump through hoops with the insurance guys, because his insurance will try and do anything to not pay you what you are entitled. A couple months passed and my lawyer called me back and told me I have a check coming. They paid for all my repairs for my car, my rental, my doctor bills, physical therapy, and then some... The smartest thing I have ever done was call my lawyer.

that looks bad but it really isn't, shops can put that back together in no time, just buy it back from the insurance and work on it again, the car is bone stock any how your losses where that much compare to some one who's had a pretty penny under the hood!

Just to update everyone whats happening.

The car is totaled and the insurance company is giving us $8,000 for the car. :rocks: Which is what I was hoping for. Im driving like 600 miles tomorrow to look at another 98 White GSX and hopefully bringing it home.

Thats really sad, Good thing you got a good amout of money from the insurance company, hope the one your going to look at is that nice. Good luck and be careful, have a safe trip.

Offer the junk yard that takes it 1000 cash and take your car back... my friend did this and now he has a parts car... useful idea. Sorry to see another dsm gone..
