245/50/16 rims, they don't fit right?

Just asking because i don't know much aboout what measurements mean and what size fit 2g GST

Thanks

no i mean these rims/tires in my car, they are selling me a set of camaro rims 5 spoke rims and i was wondering if they would fit under the fenders and look good. Would this be a problem/drawback?
Anyone using these size tires?

Those are HUGE tires. I have 225/45-17's and they almost rub. 245's would definitely be a problem. Also, I'm not sure, but if they're Camaro rims, the lug spacing might be different.

For starters you have a couple considerations:

1. Lug spacing. If this is wrong, it won't work. 5 x 114.4 is what you need. It's highly unlikely that a rear wheel drive American car would come close.
2. Tire Diameter. Those tires are so much bigger than anything anyone here has used that you probably won't get a first hand opinion. You would have to space them way out and they would look ridiculous. If they did fit in the wheel wells they will seriously mess with your speedo and gear ratios.

I have to agree with the last comment. I have a Ford Ranger and I run a 245 series tire on it but there is no need for that on a front wheel drive sport compact. I run a 225X45 on my 17s and they stick just fine. If you need more handling look into suspension work.

I have to check of they fit, and i will also replace the tires to 225, i knew these seemed too big.

It can work, but depends on your suspension settings and wheel offset. With the correct offset wheel a 245/45/16 will fit with ample clearance. A 50 series will be taller, about the same diameter as a 245/45/17, that is the size I run on my 2G. I use a 35mm offset wheel, no spacers. You will need to roll the rear fender lip and add about .75 degrees front negative camber. They do kind of stick out the fenders when the car is at rest but the tires will tuck in the fenders when the suspension bottoms out. Now if your car is slammed and you use camber adjustment kits to decrease negative camber then you will have a problem.

F-body wheels are 5x120, so they're out.

But 1994+ Mustangs are on 5x114, so they work. And the spacing is often about right. The problem is usually the center bore, but this is easily dealt with.

So the idea that American RWDs can't swap wheels with a Japanese Pony Car is ... well ... poorly researched.

My reply was based on not modifying the car's body in any way. It sounded to me like he was asking if he could just buy them, put them on, and have them fit right.

A whole bunch of people on this thread need to do more research. As another example, we have someone saying that 245/50/16 is so huge that nobody runs them. This, too, is patently false, since I know of two DSMs within 50 miles that are on 245/45/17 Falken Azenis and these are almost the exact same size as 245/50/16 (i.e., within a quarter of a %).

It's so easy to run the on-line tire-size calculator before posting something of which you cannot be sure. Please, take the time to do this. If you had, you'd find that 245/50/16 is less than 1% bigger than 215/50/17 (stock 2G AWD premium). If you think a Mitsu speedo is closer than 1% to your actual speed, send me what you're smoking.

What about the width? Are you saying he could just put on 245's and they wouldn't rub? Maybe the diameter is less than 1% bigger, but the width seems much more.

How many times do people have to post that 245/40/17 is one of the best tire sizes for a 2G for you to get it that they fit?

The required offset is +40mm.

Is it different on a 1G vs. 2G?

94+ Mustangs run about 22-29mm offset. Pre 94 is even less (not to mention only 4 bolts. In my book that is not about right. Poor research?

Let's try to help the guy instead of pointing out how wrong everyone is. He's looking at a set of wheels from a Camaro. My advice is to keep looking.
