Rear Wheels are not straight?

I just noticed something about my car. It looks as if the rear wheels are on an angle. They seem like the bottoms are sticking out farther than the top. It also looks like the rear portion of the wheels are sticking out farther than the front. I do have coil-overs installed, could they be the problem? If they are, then i think that i'll have to put back on the stock shocks so that i don't screw up the tire tread. It did have an alignment done when the coil-overs were installed. The only coil over that i've adjusted since was the back left, because it looked as if it was lower on that side. Thanks for any suggestions:thumb: :dsm:

I got mine from whiteline, just installed it last week, works great!!!
This is the part #part num KCA365, it says its for a VR4 but fits a 1G DSM perfectly!!!
It costs about 65.00$ U.S. currency but Australian currency says its about 90.00$

Why not just use Taboo Speed Shop's rear camber kit?

Talontl, I assume yours has been lowered... how much drop from stock?

That would be why. Pick up a camber correction kit and you will be fine.

Dude, this is a common thing, when you lowerer your car your suspension immediatley drops and your axles adjust to that by shifting the weight in the middle. This cause your bottom end of the tires to tilit in and your tires wear unevenly. You can get an allignment done, but as soon as you hit a few bumps its goona go back to the tilt. Your best bet is to buy a camber kit for the front and rear, although it is not really necessary, but your tires will wear evenly and last longer.

Your are incorrect my friend.

Camber has nothing to do with weight. It has everything to do with suspension geometry. Look at the simple diagram I have drawn below. When you lower the vehicle, the pivot points where the suspension arms are attached to the chassis are lowered as well. Since the arms are rigid, they have no were to go but pivot upward. This in effect pushes the lower part of the wheel/tire outward and pulling the upper portion inward. In order to correct the camber angle back to the original specs, you'd have to either lenghten the upper arm, shorten the lower arm, or move one of the pivots outward. The problem the pivot kits is that they can only move the pivot point out so much. Modifying the arms would yield a much greater range of adjustments.

What is the adjustment range on the whiteline kit? Also do you buy 2 kits or is it just 1 kit for both sides? Was the install hard?

It took a couple of hours using a hoist, as far as the adjustment is concerned my car is lowered 2 inches and the wheels are very very close to being straight up and down now, the kit comes with both sides for the rear.:talon: :talon:

Actually, it's not entirely true. The geometry of the suspension changes any time the height of the vehicle changes - for whatever reason it might be: Flying over a speed bump, using shorter springs or hauling a ton of bricks in the trunk. It's the springs that support the weight of the car and compress and extend as the height of the car changes due to weight transfer - which consequently affects the camber of the wheels since the height of the mounting points of the control arms changes with the height of the car. :)

True... what I meant was shifting of weight like mentioned before by the other member.

´Guys Guys, this guy has a 1G!,he has a Panhard Rear Axle setup, that means, lowering the car will cause one wheel to stick out further than the other, thats normal...,he could cut the Panhard rod in half and make a threading and a sleeve, then he could adjust it...

Yeah, right. This guy does NOT have a Panhard rod. Only the FWD 1G has the Panhard rod. The guy who started this thread has an AWD, which has independent rear suspension, which is what everyone else in this thread is talking about.

Thanks pneumo!:thumb:

I was not sure about the panhard, but I do know NATO1 was looking to cure his camber and not axle offset!...wonder If he got it fixed?

I just checked my car tonight, and sure enough it has that eccentric bushing on the upper arm. Should be enough to fix the camber from the Prokit.

yeah.. i kinda scratched my head for a while after I read that. Couldn't really think of what to say and decided to walk away. :)

how low is the prokit gonna take it?

Well, i'll sorta be solving the problem with the rear wheels soon. It's called putting back on the original springs and wheels for winter. Maybe then i'll have some extra dough saved up for a camber kit when the times come to put the summer wheels back on.:)
