EVO VI brakes on a 2G DSM?

I was wondering if anyone has put EVO VI brakes on a 2G DSM yet? I get a set of those real cheap and I know it is probably some major custom work to fit themon the car but still..not more then adding BREMBO or AP stuff...so I think I will take them.I just wanted to know if anyone lese already has done this to tehir car and if they have....Have any info to share?
 
One of these days I'll have to look at an EVO at a dealer.

I know the wheel bolt pattern is the same.

I guess it all depends on the spindle and the mounting bracket for the caliper.

If the caliper bracket is compatable is the issue.

You could perhaps make an adapter plate for the bracket as well but you better know what you are doing.
 
I wont make it....will have some other guys make it for me if I decide to go this way...They build PORSCHE race cars for the GT series and have some knowledge about this--- to be said humble.. ;-) They pretty much live on it...*S*
They can custom make a mounting point without a problem...:)

Just dunno if I am willing to go there or if I just should stay with stock..but thats hard too with the power I am making/will make now....should upgrade stock brakes really......Thought I would go here for opinions and info...
 
Were thinking on the same wavelength. I'l probably build my own.

You just have to get the caliper bracket to hold the caliper centered on the rotor and the correct distance out on the rotor so the pad is centered on the disk.

I'll have a better Idea of what this entails once I have stuck my egg head under an evo.

From what I gather from that the stock master cylinder may need to be swaped out and they don't fit TEL caliper brackets.

Were talking about puting evo caliper brackets on DSM spindles.

The price he gets them at wiil determine if it is worth it.
 
Oh I get them real cheap so its nothing about hat that bothers me...Question is how hrd they will be to fit on there..custom brackets of course but how much custom we are talking I dunno yet..Will check and getbck to you all on this...You never know..Ppl need to try new things and this is one of them...Who knows..I might be the first with these brakes on a DSM..:)
 
some guy awhile back had the 3000gt vr4 brakes on his eclipse, so its probably possible to fit the evo brakes on an eclipse. Might have to get new wheels with a correct offset though
 
The thickness of the rotor where it mounts on the hub. IE the part that gets sandwiched between the wheel and hub should'nt be different enough thickness to cause problems.

The rotor offset or dish is important too. How far the actual disk sits back from the hub.

It will be highly unlikely that the caliper bracket will bolt right to the spindle. You will likely need an adapter plate from something like 1/2" steel plate between the DSM spindle and the evo caliper bracket. Driled to match the DSM brackets holes to bolt to the spindle. Then the plate would drilled and tapped for the EVO caliper so it is in the right position.

The best way to figure out what you need for an adapter would be to pull the DSM brakes on one corner including the caliper bracket. Slap the evo rotor on and peg it with a couple lug nuts. Put the EVO caliper on its caliper bracket with the pistons retracted and new pads. Slip the caliper on the rotor at the right clock position and see how the bracket lines up on the spindle. That will show you the approximate difference in mount points. You will need to make sure the pads are lined up on the rotors surface properly and that the caliper is centered on the rotor laterally as well as the caliper slide pins. It's more attention to detail and planning than grunt work.

You know I should have remembered that 4 pots are non floating calipers. They are rigidly mounted since they have pistons on each side of the rotor. That makes it easier:D

Now that I see it it doesn't look too bad. 160mm spacing.

Now we need to consider depth. How far in or out laterally it mounts.

The bolts on a DSM caliper bracket are alot narrower. For adapter plate purposes this is a good thing.

Radial spacing (pad face disk coverage) and lateral spacing (Caliper opening centered on the disk) will need to be fine tuned. The radial spacing will be fine tuned via where on the adapter bracket you drill the holes for the caliper. Lateral can be fine tuned with solid spacers on the bolts. Once the lateral spacers are selected I recomend welding them in place on the adapter plate.

If you can get two sets of EVO brakes let me know. If I had a set I would make adapters and put up the blueprints for eveybody.
