Ok...I figured out that I want Falken Azenis 245/45/17 (biggest they make) as my tire. Since they are heavy I don't want to also get heavy rims and make my car slow. I'll probably spend 1500-1600 on rims and tires so thats 1000 for the rims.

With 1000 what are the nicest and lightest rims I can get that are 17 x 8.

Rims I like are similar to Motegi MR7's, Racing Hart C2's (I think they are the c2's), basically any 6-7 spoke that aren't too thick and aren't too thin. I don't want 5 spoke or 8 and bigger. The C2 style is also nice with the triangle type shapes. The Volk TE37 is aight...I like the fact that it is so light but the rim doesn't apeal to me that much. So there I kinda gave you an idea of what I'm looking for. Just give me some ideas and maybe throw me some links or even pics. Thanx - Eric

BTW-I've tried searching but there isn't a whole lot...Id like the opinions of everybody but I know that isn't possible.

Well I know that forged wheels are just out of my budget...but what are some lightweight close to $1000 17 x 8 rims that look similar to the rims I mentioned?

Volk Racing Gram Lights (57C) should be within your budget. If you can deal with the 225 Azenis' the Kosei K1 Racing wheels are great too.

:p LOL, nice budget. Volk makes some excellent lightweight rims. They just came out with a rim not too long ago.. 17" that weighed like 12.5 lb's. The styling is not the greatest it is like a split 5 star basic rim and only came in flat black and silver, maybe white? Rota also makes some excellent lightweight rims. My personal favorite: Motegi's Ro_Ja Formula 5 you can get this in a whopping 19" rim and weighs in at only 14.5 lbs. Plus the styling is beautiful.. gunmetal with a machined lip. OMG To die for.. but they cost like $550 a piece. Volk is more in your price range Give or take a couple hundred bucks. If you really want a good deal go with the rota's.

www.whalentire.com has some light wheels, as does www.machiii.net

Good luck. On looks, that is too subjective, so I would recomend finding the heaviest wheel you would want and staying under that weight (in my case 20 lbs was it, and I found some 18 lb ADR's for $95 ea).

Rota wheels are exactly what you are looking for.

Light weight and cheap. Do a search on the website or on google for this brand, you'll find a bunch of info

18lb's eek.. thats still pretty heavy. 17 was my limi. 16 is what the 5 star gs rims weigh... I just took mine and got them powdercoated a flat black.. they look great! Still looks stock like but doesn't. ;)

im not sure if you get Super Street mag. But they just did a review of 211 rims. They list tons styles and sizes and have a lot of detailed info. weight included

i saw a set of rims made by velox......tha rs-5's that weigh in at 11.5lbs a piece. tha only place i knew that sold em doesnt carry velox any more so you might hav to check out velox's site. tha place that was sellin em was only chargin like 750 with zr rated tires:dsm:

Ok guys...well I found my rims and bought them even though they were out of my budget.

SSR Competition...they weigh less and cost less and IMO look better than the Volk TE-37. I got the 17x8 and it only weighs 13.1lbs. Im hoping that that may reduce the weight of the car by at least 40lbs if not 50-60. I paid 375 a rim shipping included no tax so ya...anyway thanks for the help guys

I couldn't handle getting 16's again plus these are 17x8's if I got 17x7's they are only 11lbs. so there hah...:D honestly I just wanted a nice 6spoke lightwieght rim to put 245's on and maybe maybe squeze 255's but I doubt it. I autocross and i'm thinking about road racing so 225's just wont cut it.

The rims you chose are very nice. Definately better for a daily driver/street car.

Enjoy!

He can't run 245/40r17s on any of their wheels, no 8".

R-1 racing wheels might be right up your alley, they make fairly light racing wheels, and for the price they are the best quality yoiu can find. my friend just got 4 R-1 19" wheels with tires for about $2300, 17s should be a good bit cheaper.

but R-1 wheels arent the easiest to get. they are very good quality for their price, so they sell very well and usually arent in stock. my friend had to call their main office on cali, and get the number of the only local dealer. then the rims had to be shipped from japan, and got stuck in customs for like 2 weeks.

but they came in 2 days ago, and they are really nice rims.

I know where you can get some lightweight 17 inch forged close outs.

$197. each.

Just wait untill I get my order in first and I'll post.

Try looking at the post date.

Now look at the calender for today.

Look back at the post date.

Look at the calender again.

17x8 SSR Competitions weigh more than 14#. They're some of the best wheels out there, but let's not push it.

Lotsa luck with the 245/45/17 Azenis.

- Jtoby

fancy tires and wheels: $2000
having them not fit the car: priceless

ok wow...almost a year later...anyway, I loved these rims...lotsa looks too...and the 245/45/17's fit and they fit without rubbing...they fit great...

and ya, I weighed them when I got them...I thought they weighed 13lbs each but it was 14...powdercoating added a lb.

well, now that this post is back from the dead, and I am parting out my car, putting it back to stock, then selling it...anyone want these rims

they need new tires...I have completly worn Azenis's on them right now and they are off the car...one rim is slightly damaged but can be fixed for about 150.

I'll sell them for 1000...even with having to fix one, its like getting one of them for free. And they are still in great condition...only one is damaged from smashing into a curb...put a slight bend in it and scratched it...I can take pics for those interested.

Did the 245/45/17 Azenis actually tuck inside the fenders in the rear? If so, did you have any spacers behind the upper-arm brackets?

- Jtoby

I didn't have spacers...but I do have a camber kit that pushes the upper-arm out...the wheels/tires stuck out just a little all around...check the pics in my gallery, and because the car was too low and springs to soft, (one and most annoyingly I would always hit the bump stops and learned my lesson never to lower a car that much again) If I tried carrying a lot of weight in the back and turned, the fender would rub the tire and actually dug into it when there was a lot of tread on them.

but I stopped carrying people in the back...that was the problem. If I had a nicer suspension, I would have been able to be low and carry people and not worry about rubbing...but instead..I took the easy and cheap way out DONT CARRY PEOPLE.. :D

you should try the 245's...I remember you joined the boards just as I started going idle and you were really knowledgable with suspension and racing, mainly only real racing, the kind with turns. But ya, the 245's fit nicely with the +38mm offset (40 and 42 work as well...40 is the best) and they make a huge difference in handling...I cut 5 seconds off my Auto-X time...I think it also had to do with it was my second time going (more experience) and the tire I had the first time were in no way performance related at all

-Eric-

ohh, and I forgot...before I had these tires, I put 255/40/17 Kumho 712's on the back and they fit without rubbing either...they could have fit on the front too...

they looked almost the same size as the Azenis, I think cause they came from a smaller carcus (or what ever that is)

The lightest 17 inch rims are 11.7 pounds each, guess who makes them.
Centerline Impulse

Just thought I'd point that out.
