Hey guys, I never even considered getting a 97 Eclipse Spyder GS-T, but I saw a black one with tan top and interior for an amazing price. The only questions I have is about the handling and weight. How much more/less does the Spyder weigh compared to the regular GS-T. also is there much more chasis flex? Is handling affected drastically?? Any info to do with this topic or the spyder would be greatly appreciated ... any other differences between the two?? Suspension? brakes? anything I wouldn't know since like I said, I never have considered a spyder until now :)

Thanks again

the 'vert will weigh more than the hardtop gst...about 300lbs. i believe...and i'd assume more chassis flex because of the amount of "body" missing as compared to a hardtop...everything else is basically the same...the wing will be different, the a-pillars are different and the reason why i dont like 'verts is because of the leakage of heat/air because of the soft-top cover...otherwise..if you had a choice i'd say get a hardtop gs-t...thats just IMO though..hope this helps..

It's only a 130lb difference NOT 300 and the Spyder is reinforced from the factory pretty well so flexing is minimal and they handle about the same as a coupe. Also if you want a great handling car don't buy a DSM try a Type-R Integra they handle extremely well. There are minimal sacrifices to be made but not enough to justify buying a coupe over a Spyder, it all comes down which one YOU like better.

trust me..I have had both a GS coupe and a GST Spyder ( wich I own right now) and there is no feeling like cruisin top down in the summerdays:) I wouldnt trade my Spyder for anything right now...since I am going engine upgrades as well as suspension so..it will be the ultimate car for me right now:)

PS: chicks dig the top down style for sure*LOL*

Whats more important a few extra pounds or females jockin you cause you gotta a drop top??????? FEMALES!!!!!!!!!!!!! but seriously i cant tell the diffrence i've drivin my friends hardtops and there no noticible diffrences, other than a clear un obstucted view. if your that concerned about handling just drop it. but c'mon get tha drop top u know u like em topless!!!!!!!!!!

only difference from the hardtop and spyder is the weight, a little over 100lbs. due to the extra chassis bracing needed being it's a convertible and the spyder's have no rear sway bar. *solution*, buy a rear sway bar and take the couple extra pounds as a compromise for all the extra chicks you'll pick up instead of driving a hardtop!

so the question comes down to......how does thousands of screaming, sexy, gorgeous women at your mercy sound???? LOL

yeah get the roof scoop and a license plate that reads "rice-a-roni"

a roof scoop would be pointless because it's totally unfunctional...

I have a driven and raced both types of eclipses and the only differance that i have noticed is the spyder weighs a lil more, but thats a given. Right now i own a spyder and it is awesome so much better then a hardtop at night cruisin. Go with the spyder.:D
