Anyone ever used Monroe shocks and in particular the sensatrac kind? They say that they are a little stiffer than stock but they cost less than GR2s. This wouldnt be permanent, just a temporary fix while I save up for AGXs or some ksport coil overs.

That is what i have now getting ready to put on my car with stock springs. My old shocks were worn out and i was bottoming out. I will let you know how they feel when i get them done but i am also installing es bushing threw out the car.

If you are just looking for a cheap pair, go with the bottom line monroe's. They will suffice until you can get the AGX's or GR2's. I put the sensatracks on my camaro and was not to impressed with them. I later upgraged to the GR2's which I loved.

my brother had stock worn struts with crappy overly stiff ebay coilovers on his 2g when he bought it and he replaced that with eibach sportlines and monroe sensatracs and i think i actually preferred the stock struts and crappy coilover sleeves. The sensatracs didnt impress me at all. My 1g on the other hand has gr-2s on stock springs (for now) and it handles and rides much better. go with the gr-2s, they're the same price or cheaper than sensatracs anyway. Try ebay there are a lot of sellers on there selling gr-2s cheap.

oh and go with k-sports rather than drop springs and agxs. Decent drop springs, agxs all around and new strut mounts actually end up costing more than the ksports and arent even close to as adjustable or good handling. Plus the ksports come with a pillowball uper mount in the front and an aluminum one in the back, and they have there own adjustable camber plate up top for the front so you dont have to buy anything else aside from camber arms for the back.

A little late but here is an update. I finally picked up the sensatracs yesterday and will be installing them tomorrow (or at least getting started) a previous post in here said something about gr2s being the same or less then sensatracs... where? Anyway these were actually a birthday gift so I am not going to bi*** at all. I will let everyone know how the ride is after and if this takes care of some other issues I am having.:hellyeah:

They should do it for now with stock springs. If you use aftermarket springs you will blow them out. I blew a set in a Probe years ago within about 10 miles

Any update? Monroe has a rebate for $80 if you purchase a set so I am considering these to replace my blown stockers.

I got a set last summer for the back. They did stiffen up the ride a tad, but now it feels stock.

I wouldn't go with cheapest available because did that with Sears brand one time on turbo 1g and actually made car worse than driivig on worn out struts. How that was even possible idk.

I've used sensatracs on my Dodge Daytona turbo 2.2 years ago and loved them but don't know how they would be on a dsm My guess is probably not bad and please post how they are if you get them on there.

Ksport, D2, Tein, etc, call come from the same manufacturing plant..

Yeah and they're all Made in China pieces of garbage. Except for Tein, those are made in Japan, and again not the best brand out there. Good for most though.

Ok sorry I forgot to update. I went with the cheap brand from Kragen Auto Parts and I am content for now. I am still working out other maintenance issues left from the previous owner so I don't drive it very much just yet. That being said, when I do drive it there is a HUGE improvement in the ride quality even though the shocks are cheap. I plan on going with some D2s or Megans in the next year or so (if everything goes to plan) so I will let everyone know what happens at that point.

I'm about to order either Monroe sensatracs or GR-2's. Can anyone using these comment on how your 1g feels with them? I need to impove handling (stock struts are worn out) for aggresive driving tooling around the streets but don't want anything too stiff because ride compliancy is important too for long highway trps and sunday drives LOL.

Someone just told me that GR-2's are stiffer than oem struts? Can anyone comment on that?

Btw what's the best deal I could get oem's for and do they hold up good for 50,000 mi or more?

I installed a complete set front and back with Eibachs Pro's I loved them improved the ride on my 2g. I have GR 2's on my 1gb I did have coil overs great but not for DD. For the price which was about 37.00 per strut and a lifetime warranty at your local O'Reilly's verse the cost for for GR2's the Monroes where great. A street shock for the money.
