1G AWD front Swaybar install question

Hey everyone, so I posted this question in the Newb section and got no responses, so I figured it was time to ask some more knowledgeable people.

I have a 1991 Tsi AWD with the front suspension completely ripped apart (including hubs, control arms, cross members, engine, tranny, etc etc etc). I am trying to install the RM Racing front swaybar in my car but the supplied braket does not work at all. The braket and bushings given with the kit are for a 2-bolt design, where as the 1g's use a 1bolt and hook design braket. Now after contacting MachV directly, I was told that I will need to modify the 2-bolt braket to resemble the 1-bolt / hook braket.

Has anybody done this before? Basically I am looking for info, advice, pictures, experience, anything I can find really to help get this bar installed. I found one thread of a previous member drilling and tapping a new bolt hole in his subframe which for me is not an option.

Ok, well if anyone else ever has this problem here is what I did:

I got the swaybar in after some minor bracket modifications.

here is what I started with:

Note that the factory bracket only has one bolt hole and a hook, where as the supplied bracket has two bolt holes. Apparently its "all they have" as far as brackets are concerned...



So, basically I had to "modify the bracket to resemble the old one and fit in the hook. Seems simple enough, but then I found out that the bushing is larger than before which means that I had to do some bending and reforming of the bracket.

You probably can't tell but I had to straighten out the 90 degree bend by the part I cut, then re-bend it further down the bracket as to space the bushing farther from the frame. I moved it out roughly 1/8 of an inch (best just to eyeball it...)

The end result still wasnt perfect and required I use a spacer on the backside of the bracket's bolt hole, but in the end it fit snug, bushing and bar were secure. I used some blue loctite just to be safe.

I installed one of these. Drilled a new hole for the top mount, then drilled an inch hole through the side to fit a nut in.
