I have a '90 Tsi AWD and of course the stock brakes leave much to be desired. I was just curious if anyone has tried this swap and if so, there thoughts on it.

Thanks...

Typically not vr-4 brakes as they are pretty big (4 pot), but the non turbo 3000gt brakes, diamante brakes are both the same as the 2 piston 93+ awd brakes which is a common upgrade

Hmmm... So it has been done? I'm pretty sure I'm going to go ahead and try this out as soon as I find a set. I want to up my brakes more than the 93+... Heh, even though any brake kit would help me out.. ;)

I have seen it done on a 2G before, but I wasn't successful in finding specifics on how to do it from anyone.

from the VFAQ:

I want to go all out! Can I bolt on the HUGE brakes from a Stealth / 3000GT Twin Turbo?

No, it is not a bolt-on proposition. If you just gotta have MONSTER brakes, there are number of aftermarket vendors now offering giant bolt-on brake upgrades for the DSMs with 12" - 13" rotors and all of the necessary hardware, calipers, etc., but be prepared to pay for them.

To graft the VR-4 TT brakes to the DSMs, the spindle from the TT has to be modified by a machine shop so as to utilize the stock T/E/L front shaft bearings and hubs, and the stock Brembo calipers must be ground to fit 17" wheels, since the caliper sides will rub against the wheel spokes.

NOTE: In 1994, Mitsu upgraded the Stealth / 3000GT VR-4 TT brakes to even larger rotors front and rear, and they will not clear the stock 17" '91-93 TT wheels or brake dust shields. Aftermarket 17" wheels or '94+ factory 18" wheels are necessary for clearance.

Well since a non turbo 3s uses the same brakes as a 95+ dsm and they can do the swap, I dont see how we cant.

You need to change out a few things including the hub and steering knucles.

I ask somebody I know on 3si who has done it before. You can also mount the pre 94 3s calipers on the stock 2g rotors if you just wanna go 4 piston calipers.

I think this is what I will do, 4 piston calipers and slotted rotors.
