Just thought I'd let you know 255/45/17's will fit! The rims have a 35mm offset. Tires stick out a bit on the front but clear the struts without any spacers.

I have 255/40/17 on my 1g as well. I had picked up some 17x9 RPF-1 last summer. With some camber and a stretch/flare of the fenders it won't stick out so much

Rolling the rears eliminated the problems in the rear, but alas Jtoby was right on the spring rates being too soft. It took a some time, but the faster I got and the more confident I was in the corners, the faster the tires would show wear on the outside. Stiffer front springs and adjusted bump stops are the solution. Thus the suspension change currently in progress (don't want to be burning through R-comps unless the rubber is on the track).

One note, I wouldn't recommend this tire size for everyday use. The amount of debris that gets slung down the side of you're car will make you

How is your clearance inside the front wheel well when fully turned. My front tires barely missing the inside wall when fully turned, my wheels are Enkie RPF2 17"X8" 35mm offset with 235X45X17 tires. How about your rear trailing arms, aren't they rubbing agains your tires? The clearance between my AWD car's rear trailing arm and tire is no more than 1/8".

No clearance issues at full lock in the front. Or with the inside knuckles (front or rear). The difference may be in the height of your tire. A 235/45/17 is 25.4" tall where a 255/40/17 is 25.0" tall. The overall diameter is a shade bigger and we're playing a game of millimeters. I have maybe centimeter of clearance to the knuckle, but haven't shown any signs of rubbing even under extreme cornering load (1.18 Gs).

Oh, and mine is a 2G.

You should have more clearance thatn 1/8". I run 255/40/17 on a 17x9 +37 rear and I have more than 1/8" clearance, granted i shaved down the trailing arm. But you should have more than enough, plus I'd want to space out the rear a little with your offset so it's flush.

It has plenty of clearance when fully turned. it actually gets a little close when its about half turn but that may have more to do with my body kit and making the splash guards fit. You would probably have to grind your rear trailing arm to get them to fit in the rear. FWD is easier for clearance in the rear than AWD because it just one thin bar back there. I bought my old set of 245/45/16 from a 1G AWD guy and he had to do some grinding in the rear to get them to fit but they fit on my FWD no problem.

Yea, I wasn't really thinking about that at the time. Cars already covered in crap :(
