for my awd talon i was thinking about a drop using eibach sportlines. I dont have alot of money so i was thinking about getting a cheap set of GR2s. Im not going to be doing any autoX or anything. Just daily driving and maybe taking some turns are high speed. What should i look at that would be cheap. How long would my stock shocks last with the sportlines and what would it drive like when they blow?

If your Talon is a 1G, they'll hold up just fine with a drop. KYB makes great products, and the GR-2 is much stiffer than stock shocks, so they'll do just fine. My setup is GR-2's with Sprint springs, 2" drop all around. Do NOT put sportlines on, or any lowering springs on, with your stock shocks, they will definitely blow out.

GR-2's are only slightly stiffer than stock shocks, the only reason everyone thinks they are alot stiffer is because 90%of the DSM's out there with the factory shocks on already have over 50,000 miles or more on them, which tends to loosen them up a bit. I also dont consider monroe or gabriel OEM replacement shocks real "OEM" style shocks... they are much softer than factory new OEM KYB shocks to give people who buy cheap shocks for their 1.8L beater car a smooth ride. Sorry to rant, and drag up an old thread...

That being said, I'm going to try out a set of Netami 2.0" Springs on my brand new GR2's and see how they hold up. I'm planning on switching to AGX's once they blow, or a set of KSport coilovers.... but I'd like to see how long the GR-2's can hold up. You also have to understand that you HAVE to trim the bumpstops and that travel when lowered is different on 1g's and 2g's (and even 1g AWD vs FWD), even if they have the same spring/shock combo... people seem to forget that alot.

You also have to understand that just because two different brand springs are both a 2" drop, the spring rates ARE NOT always the same, also some springs are progessive rate and some are straight rate, which can affect travel, ride, and shock life by a large amount.

oh.. my.. gosh.

I am lowered on skunk 2's with kyb GR2's and it is the absolute worst driving experience i have ever had. I am upgarding IMMEDIATLY. the ride gets so bouncy that one dip results in 6-7 "wave" rides, usually resulting in me throwing up from sea sickness

DO NOT get the gr-2's with a drop it is the bounciest, worst ride i have ever experienced. maybe its just my setup but i can get a video to show what i mean if need be. BTW these gr-2's are only a month old and dropped only 1-2.5 inches

They will be alright for about 1" or so. Anything more and it will be horrible. I have Tein and GR2's and its rides smoother than stock.

i can vouch that the GR2s suck with drop springs. I just got a talon that came with them and Intrax springs. Worst ride ever. The nose of the car bounces like im driving a boat on water when im on the highway. They were designed for an uprade of the stock shocks using stock or close to stock springs.

I agree, forget the GR-2's. I was looking into buying them as well, when I found out they were basically a stock replacement. I'm on Tokico HP's and I love it, they aren't much more so I would definitely look into them.

I had gr-2's on sportlines on my old 2gnt and i had the same feeling. It was definatly better then my blown OEMs, but i couldn't stand the wavy sensation, specially while trying to negotiate turns during spirited driving. I gave them 1 month, and switched to AGX's.Loved those, gonna get some for my 1g next week as a matter of fact.I think the gr-2's could of taken a light drop like the 1.3" of the prokit just fine, but after that,I would defianatly try something else.

I have to disagree with 90% of the above comments. I have the same setup as eclipse2nr91. Sprint Performance Springs (2" drop) with GR2's and the ride is great. I've had this setup on for over a year now and the ride is just as good as it was since I put this setup on. Cornering is great. Even at good speed. I have no bad bouncing like you get with a cheap coilover kit from ebay. I dont have the wish wash stuff others are mentioning. That is with out strut tower bars installed. I will vouch for the GR2's if no one else will. I am very pleased with them.

GR-2's are stock height shocks...not good with lowering spring...would suggest AGX or Illumina for that...my opinion....

I just installed my new suspension consisting of kyb-gr2's and 1.5in lowering springs bought from ebay (vogtland brand). And I must say I really like the ride a lot. Not only is the drop great but its not too much. I barely notice any body roll and its not bouncy at all. I'm very happy with the setup, the car rides like a dream and it only cost me about $350 total.

they suck, they popped on my ass

LOL! Me too. I had them for about 1 week and noticed 2 (the rears) oil spots forming under my car. Out those came and in went AGXs. I can feel a difference, although I still think my suspension needs something else to smooth it out.

I've had GR-2s with H&R sport springs (supposed to be 1.25" front/1" rear drop) on my 1g awd for over a year, but only a few thousand miles. They have held up fine for the driving I have done. Smooth ride, firmer than stock but never uncivilized. I did a proper install with new bumpstops cut 3/4" all around (the old ones crumbled when I pulled them out). I don't think they would have hit even without the cutting, though, as with the fairly significant weight reduction my car has, the car really doesn't ride much lower than stock.

i went with the gr2s and sportlines and wish I had listened to the warnings! dont do it man my car hits hard when I roll over a pebble. almost undrivable, not to mention dangerous:notgood:

They're bulbous rubber sleeve deals that ride at the top of the shock right under the spring hat. If you don't have any they probably rotted and crumbled and you need to buy new ones.
