Well my car needs new struts or shocks or whatever they are. I'm looking right now at Tokico Illumina's. But I have a guy on here that is offering to sell me Koni Yellows w/ Prokit Springs for 400 + shipping, they have about 10k miles on them though. Is that a good deal or should I just get the new ones without the springs? Also is installing them something I can do myself, or do I need a machine? My uncle said I need a strut machine or something to put them on, but I thought you could do them yourself. Also should I get the springs at the same time or am I good with just the shocks for now and then springs later if I buy brand new?

Hey hows it goin. I not sure if your getting a pretty good deal for used suspension. P Tuning sells the Illumina shocks and Progress lowering springs for about $635. You said your getting the other set for 400 plus shipping. Lets say shipping comes out to $40, for about another 200 you can get a brand new set of suspension stuff. Who knows, if the shocks are still good. Im not trying to discourage you from buying the other set. But if you get them and they blow out after 4 months or so, your back to square 1.

I guess its a toss up if you want used parts or not. While I run the Illuminas & think they work amazing, everyone says if you have the cash go Koni as they are even better. Seems like a good price to me & shocks aren't usually something that would crap out after 10k but you never know. Looks like Koni has a lifetime warranty but its only to the origional purchaser. I'd want to go check them out first to see their condition & make sure they were operating correctly (that none are blown). As for changing them, yes you can change them yourself with some basic hand tools but you will need a spring compressor to take the springs of the shocks. You can pick one of these up from an autoparts store for $20-50.

Awesome thanks for your help guys. I think I might be going with the Tokico kit with springs that I can get off ebay for like 475 shipped. I'm going to wait and see pictures and stuff of the shocks the guy wants to sell me. He's from this site and lives in norcal so he'd have to ship them to me I couldn't pick them up and check them out. What about camber kits will I need one? And as long as I have the reciept of purchase how can they know i'm not the original buyer?

Oh and I think he drives an AWD so I know the shocks don't matter, but the pro-kit springs are probably AWD, which i'm guessing I can't use?

For the warranty maybe you had to fill out a warranty card, thats the only way I can think they would know if your the origional purchaser, otherwise like you said if you get the origional receipt you should be good to go. If you do go Tokico I got my spring/shock combo from a store off ebay, think it was jdmworks, they were great to deal with. For that drop yes it will thow your alignment a good bit out. I spent $20 on the rear & got the extra washers & longer bolt kit that most dsm vendors will sell & the guy that did my alignment must have notched something to pull the camber back in spec. For the springs I believe they are different between awd & fwd & so are the shock but I believe the shocks can be modded to fit but not sure.

hmmm ok. how long did it take for the shocks to get there off ebay?

Don't remember exactly as it was a few years ago but it couldn't have been too long otherwise I would have defently remembered it was a long wait (you always seem to remember negative things). I'm thinking they were in stock & they shipped within a day or two....
