Okay, I had clanking coming from the rear of the car by the wheels, what i thought was my shocks. I replaced them with Tein Flex, So i thought maybe the brakes, replaced them with Wilwood big brake kit. I take it for a drive and still the exact same noise when i go over bumps. The tire wear is rediculously uneven, and when i hit bumps on the road, The entire back end sways back and forth like its on skis. When the car is parked and i push down on suspension, i cannot get it to make the clunking noise. I took off my center caps to my wheels and that still wasnt it. The wheel doesnt shimmy when i pull and shake on it or anything. I am stumped with this and it depressing the hell out of me. Please help me out here. Thanks

Possibly a worn/stuck bushing? May want to get your alignment checked if your experiencing uneven tire wear and instability. May also need a camber correction kit depending on how low you have the Tein's set.

Just curious, what tire size you are running. Back when I had my '96 GST I made a poor decision and placed 245s on the stock rims (poor college student). Anyways I never confirmed it, but I think the rear tires would bulge out slightly from a bump and contact the control arm causing that tire to hesitate and make the rear unsettle. Was ok on dry, but could really feel it in the wet.

Kind of like rewiring the house to fix a burnt out light bulb.

I agree. It sounds like a bushing or a ball joint.

Yeah, i went a little overboard but i needed the upgrades. I am shipping the car back to the United States in a couple weeks and needed to raise the car up some. Thanks for the inputs. I am going to put all poly bushings in the states and get the rear end fixed by a dealer if i cant figure out this problem. I am running 22545 zr17 falken azenis Thanks

How much did you lower on the coilovers and did you get an alignment after you put them on? Adjust back to stock height and put on new tires and see if that noise goes away some. If you have nasty wear patterns on your tires already there's nothing you can do...replace them. If you need a camber kit, RRE makes the one I'm using but it doesn't correct as much as they advertise without extra washers.

Okay i went out to my car with a friend and we pulled back and forth on both back wheels from the top of the wheel. There is serious freeplay on both back tires. However i replaced the rear wheel bearings about a year and a half ago. The noise its making is similar to a spray can rattling when i hit bumps. Thats the best comparison i can come up with. There is no whining or anything as before my bearings were replaced. So now that i have identified the freeplay from the tops of both wheels, what do you guys think this most likely is? I also am at stock ride height with these Tein Flex's. Thank you for the help.

If you can create the movement or the sound standing still, your'e 90% of the way to finding the problem. Look at the joints carefully doing this. you can ususally see, hear, or even feel exactly where it's coming from.

This is just screaming "upper knuckle bushings."

I know this is kind of late but this is exactly what I was experiencing with my car. I replaced my struts and installed Prokits and I had that same sound. It would have that sound whenever I went over speed bumps or potholes. I replaced my upper knuckle bushings along with all other bushings for the rear with the ES bushing kit and you would not believe how much better the car feels when braking at high speeds (It would sway to either side before this) and also no noise at all when going over bumps/speedbumps/potholes.

Let me know if you guys need any pics of the installation...I was planning on doing a write up but I've just been too busy.
