Alright I need some opinions on a brake upgrade here. I have a fwd so it has the tiny 10" rotors. I warped these pretty easily & I would say I wasn't even being hard on them. I also get brake fade when slowing from high speeds, so I need pads as well. Now I've never though that the brakes weren't big enough or stopped to slow but I need something that isn't going to worp that easy. So out of these 2 options what would everyone recommend & why:

Brembo slotted awd rotors
Hawk HPS pads
Awd calipers
SS lines

or

Powerslot Plus1 fwd rotors
Hawk HPS pads
SS Lines

Which would be a better upgrade? They end up both basically costing the same (~$550)just one would still be using the stock 1 piston caliper. I don't want to spend a fortune on brakes as I think the stock ones still work great if they didnt worp so easily. I don't want to spend more then what I have listed because if I get the powerslot+1 awd then add the awd calipers Im at the price for the 13" baer kit but if I go 13" rotor I would want the 2 piece unit as I don't want all that extra weight since Im already running heavy 18's, so before you know it Im almost double what I want to spend.

I could not stop my rotors from warping with the stock calipers :notgood:
Upgraded to the awd 93+ calipers with axxis pads and ss lines... WOW so much better :thumb:
Do the 93 + awd upgrade ;)
check out http://thespeedfactor.com
Got my upgrade on rotors from them with the pads and ss lines..

Definitely upgrade to the 2g awd. Also get those good components like SS lines, pads and rotors with them. I overwhelm my 225 pirellis very easily so I know I do not need better brakes, and they did not fade except once road racing when the pads litereally were smoking, I thought I blew my engine for a second..

So it looks like the awd conversion is the way to go. I was just concerned about worping the rotors again as they aren't that much larger then the gst ones which worped extremely easly.

Let's face it...the stock brakes on DSMs are inadequate even for your grandma.

I have tried EBC, Metal Master, and a couple other "performance pads" and found nothing stops as well as Porterfield R4. Unfortunately, they squeal like mad, wear out in no time, and are as dusty as hell (my wheels were coated black by the time I got home from the car wash).

That said, the Porterfield R4S pads are almost as good, with little dust and seem to last as long as stock. Heck, I even use them on my Maxima.

Most of the so-called performance rotors are, in fact, cheap ass garbage rotors with some plating and cutesy designs cut in to them. Brembos are good (never tried them), but they're $$$$. I run cross-drilled and slotted Raybestos SuperStop Severe Duty and they are the FIRST rotor that hasn't warped on me after some rather spirited braking. I replace my rotors with the pads (heck, if they're warped, turning them and making them thinner is just going to make them warp FASTER). So I've tried about 8 different rotor brands on my car and NONE work as well as the Raybestos SS.

That said, in a 1G at least, it just doesn't seem to matter at all what's on the back of the car. Even with my dual-caliper upgrade, there's still too much brake in the back and I use just stock replacement quality pads and rotors in the rear.

So, if you want to save yourself some money, and get really good results, try Raybestos SuperStop rotors with Porterfield R4S pads on the front, and leave the backs alone to start.

Regards,

Brad

I just finished the 3000GT dual piston caliper upgrade on my FWD and put on drilled and slotted rotors with stock pads, feels excellent so far, more than enough stopping power for my car, Im sure with a more performance pad it would bite even harder. Just remember if you cant get 2G awd calipers and you get either late 1g or 3000gt calipers, you will need new lines. If you drain the lines dry after removing the caliper your brake master cylinder will get air in it. I found that regular bleeding still left the pedal feeling like it wasnt even there. By bleeding with the car turned on the brake booster kicked out the remainder of the bubbles and made the pedal rock hard.

Thanks for the input guys, the awd front conversion will be on its way shortly :thumb: I was going to change the fluid while I was at it, is there any preferred fluid that I should get? Should I just go with a Mitsu fluid (dot 3 etc., whatever the manuel recommends, haven't looked) or should I go with a "performance" fluid? If so what brand should I go with? I've heard you need to change the "performance" fluids more often as they absorb moisture? If so how often are we talking? I was going to go with the RRE SS lines so I was just going to pick up the fluid they have listed on their site, 600 something, something if I recall correctly.
