So Cal, California
Since DSS coilover kit is no longer around I've been looking into buying the D2 RS coilovers. I drive the canyons a lot, and as soon as I have a decent suspension setup I'll be a track whore. So I'm looking for a coilover kit that can handle, I'm not too concerned about comfort even though I drive it daily. I'm more interested in it being able to handle well.
I can't live with myself forking over $2000 for the JIC's but man would I love to. The teins seem like you're paying more for the name brand.
So I've been looking into the D2 RS coilovers and they look nice. 36 way adjustable, and the compression and rebound is adjustable unlike the teins. Also an affordable price.
Anybody have these coilovers or suggest another brand?

Save up all your nickles and dimes, shave your head for the wig factory, and sell a kidney on the black market to get Mueller JIC's.

They're worth every dime on the track.

You don't want the adjuster to raise compression and rebound both. When one goes up, the other needs to go down to control the spring.

When you run a stiffer spring, you don't need as much compression dampening. However, due to a stiffer spring wanting to spring back much harder, you need more rebound dampening.

If you crank up both, you'll have a shitty ride. The only time adjusting both is good is when they're seperately adjustable.

my only thing with D2 is you can not get a tracking number from them and i have been over a month with out my coilover because i wanted different spring rates. I have made lots of calls and they tell me that because they are coming from Taiwan they do not have tracking numbers which is bull shit so i just got a order in for a stock spring rate d2 which i am hopeing i do not have to wait for very long other wise i am going to have to find something else.

does anybody have any info with the cold and the d2's i know some brands don't work well in the winter or extreme cold. not all of us live in cali!!

I'd suggest at least looking into the HotBits coilover setup as well.

The BEST feature of the hotbits (something I unfortunately wouldn't get to take advantage of) is the fact that you can buy JUST the coilover for 1088$, install them, and enjoy them. Then you can send them to larry parker and for about 260 get them made into adjustable shocks... Once you get onto full track whoreness, you can get the pillowball/camber mounts for another 480 from hot bits.

Basically start of with a basic set, and as you need the adjustments, get them.

By the way, the JICs adjust both rebound and compression at the same time.

I got my D2's and it took me 8 hours to put them on due to the fact that the orginal shocks were rusted on the car. I have drove the car in the lower 30's with no problem the box does say -19 - +60 C so that should answer the cold but i have not tested this yet.

I'm looking to get D2 soon for my AWD, so would you give your opinion on them ;)

I really like them. You can adjust ride height with out increasing your K value and you do not reduce ride height. I have not really played with the setting on the shocks because they ride pretty good and i have snow tires on the car right now, so the shocks at there settings keep the car really flat i did order 10kg/mm and 8 kg/mm and stock from d2 is 9 and 7

The shocks are well protected from salt with the shock rod cover and coatings. i did put anti-seze on about everything as i always do so i can adjust stuff later. My friend has some custom Owens shocks on his evo. It rides kind of like that but i am sure not as good i am sure due to the cost difference and well it is a evo. I have not made up my mind yet if i am going to do bars on the car yet i will have to see in the spring what the street tires feel like.

There is no weird noise with the shocks and i like how it replaces everything not like the koni where it does just part of the job so if your car has 200,000 miles on it like mine this seems to be the way to go. but time will tell on reliability.

Ordered them two weeks ago and I'm still waiting for them.
D2 was busy with SEMA so they didn't ship them out.
Talked to Marti at the speed factor and he said he would bug them about sending them out ASAP. Supposedly they were sent out on Monday or today, I'll check up on them tomorrow morning, and I'll follow up on a review after I get them.

it took me about 8 weeks but i did get custom spring rates D2's shipping records are some of the worst i have ever seen. but the shocks seem to perform much better then the shipping.

I'm glad the folks who are running them are happy with them. We do the best we can to get them to each of you as you order but D2 USA has had one hell of a time keeping them in stock. They are assuring me that within the next 3-5 weeks we will be able to again have them in stock and ready to ship. thanks to all of those who are being patient. You'll find them to be worth the while.

My D2's came today and I put them in earlier this afternoon. Install was simple, the usual problems here and there with pesky bolts, but other then that it was easy. I'm loving the adjustable camber plates up front, really easy to change and very helpful, especially for me with my 235 tires on evo rims.
I'll post back after a test drive. :thumb:

With the hotbits setup, autocross in the talon is now enjoyable. Not too firm for the street either.

For the first initial drive it was very nice and can only get better with some tuning. I took the towns best offramp and it gripped very well, I was impressed. I need to change the stiffness of the back shocks because with the sway bar the back end likes to come out a little too much, nothing a little counterstear cant solve. The suspension has nice reaction, no wheel hop, it's nice and stiff, driveability is great, no nose dive (yet, but maybe once I get my bigger brake kit,) overall I'm very pleased (and so is my bank account.)
PM me if you have any questions.
