Hey everyone,

I'm looking to drop my 1G a couple of inches, but would like it adjustable, so I've been looking at coilovers on eBay. I was just wondering.. has anyone gotten coilovers, off ebay, and were satisfied with them? I've had different opinions from many different people..

Here's an example auction, to show you what I mean: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...tegory=33582&sspagename=WDVW#ebayphotohosting

Take care and tell me what you think,

Thanks, :thumb:

they look ok his feedback score isnt too good, but he's just starting out selling. on ebay i try to find Powersellers

The thing I hate about ebay coilovers is the springs. They're too short (5.5") and too stiff (550 lbs rear/ 430 lbs front). The thing I love about ebay coilovers is the price. They're cheap enough so you can throw away the springs and buy the right springs with the money you saved. Think of it this way; on eBay you're just buying the coilover sleeves, they just happen to come with spring shaped paperweights. I found a good selection of springs at good prices at www.performancedepot.com If you want to go this route you could get a nice set of coilovers that ride and handle good for about $250. Just make sure they're paired up with the right shocks.

Ebay coilovers arnt as bad as everyone makes them out to be, I have a set and its actually a smooth ride, and its rock hard around the turns. Its a little bouncy but im on stock stuts, im loweredabout 1.5" on them BTW.

well, i'll speak on experience.

I got coilovers, e-bay brand and it raised the front and lowered the back. The sleeve it self i find fine, it is the springs that are all wrong... I dont know the problem tho, all i know is they arnt right for the car, and now i'm putting my Intrax back in. (only had the coilovers in for 5 days)

resurecting this because it sounds interesting and could be really cost efficient.

say we bought a cheap ebay coilover set (sleeve and spring). we throw away the springs and purchase better springs differently ex. a set of ebachs or teins . what spring height would we be looking for, stock height or can we use a lowered one?

are springs and sleeves of different brands interchangable?

also if 550 front and 430 rear is too stiff then what stiffness would be ideal for the street driver?

thanx in advance

Unfortunately I can't help you out with that question since you have a 2G and I have a 1G. They have completely different suspensions and need different spring rates.

Yes if they use springs with the same diameter. Most eBay coilovers use 2.5" diameter springs so you can change the length and rate.

For my 1G I got 350front/ 300rear in 8" lengths. they're almost too long for lowering the car enough, and they're almost too stiff for regular street driving. I feel that these springs were a good choice for a street driven 1G that isn't a daily driver. Another problem with some eBay springs like the ones that came with my eBay kit is they're too short, only 5.5", so they won't have enough travel when you hit bumps on the street. They'd be great for a dedicated track car, tho.

I vaguely remember reading some stuff about spring rates for a street driven 2G. Something like 400 to 450 pound springs on the front and 8" long, and 350 pounds/7" on the rear. I'm sure I could find it if I needed to. Maybe some 2G owners could chime in and say what their spring rate and lengths are?
