1g fwd rear sway bar effective?
anyone out there w/ 1g fwd using ST's rear sway bar? is it effective? how's the ride? i got eibach prokit and kyb struts all around on my 90 GST, wanted to see if it's worth while to pick a rear sway bar...the ride's kinda crappy right now, wondering if the sway bar would help stablize a bit...???

yeah man, its a proven fact that our cars, the 1g's have a problem with the rear sway bar... its way too small to do anything. I learnt that after I spun out and couldn't figure out why when I tried my car on a track with it completely stock... I watched the footage of me doing it and my rear went out in a turn, people told me about the rear sway bar and I see alot of sights offering bigger sway bars and the such, so yeah... get a bigger and better one.

So your rear end lost traction first and you spun out?
A bigger REAR sway bar would NOT reduce this or solve this "problem"
Its actually the other way around.

1g fwd don't have a stock rear sway bar...that's why i am asking...wondering if anyone else w/ 1g fwd had experience w/ aftermarket RSB...
currently i am running eibach prokit w/ kyb GR2 and the ride sucks...think the struts suck or something, it isn't very stable on the freeway, i was hoping the RSB might help...

It looks pretty OEM... and I mean I asked my brother to see if he could order one from his dealership, and the dealership stocks an OEM replacement, so... I guess it is...

My 90 tsi and my 92 GS came with rear stabilizer bars. I don't know much about suspension, but whenever i got my 90 tsi, the rear bar that had an endlink at the chassis and the other endlink on the axle, was bent. I took the same bar off of my 92 gs parts car and it fit right in on my tsi.

Are you talking about a sway bar or a panhard bar? The panhard bar is what links the straight rear axle to the chassis. The 1G FWD did not come with a sway bar to my knowlwdge. If you spun out, putting a rear sway bar in or getting a stiffer rear sway bar will not fix it. It will give you MORE oversteer. A stock 1g pushes like a dump truck in the corners, so I think your driving is to blame, not your rear sway bar(if you have one). IceDragon you need to do more research before you leave posts.

The panhard bar has a bend in it from the factory.

no, the guy who had my tsi before me bottomed it out on some rocky terrain, and the whole underside was banged up. The panhard bar that i replaced it with was straight as an arrow. With the bent one on, the rear axle sat about 2-3 inches to the passenger side.

Your crappy handling is cause you have GR-2 shocks with the stiffer pro-kit springs. The GR-2 shocks are designed to be like stock replacements, which aren't stiff enough to dampen any kind of lowering springs. Forget the swaybar, get a set of KYB AGX shocks and struts and your car will handle ALOT better. A swaybar will only reduce body roll and help quicken steering response, it wont fix a car that wallows and bounces cause of underdampened suspension. Also.. the 1g fwd didn't come with a normal swaybar, it used the entire rear axle (and the anti-sway tube welded inside of it) as a swaybar. If anyone found a swaybar on a car they bought then it must have been added by a previous owner... because there isn't any part available from the dealer for the FWD cars. The 2g is a different story.

I have a 90 Laser and it didnt come with a sway bar. I hated the way it handled so I bought a ST swaybar for the rear and it was night and day difference. The car would sway and it was annoying as hell. I put that on, took maybe 5 minutes, and bam car felt alot more respsonsive and flat.
