I'm going autocrossing on Sunday and I need to know what air pressure I should have in the tires in ideal conditions (my tires:215/40/18 front 225/40/18 back)car is an RS. Also, any other hints/clues somebody wants to give?

Also, what is the lateral g for our cars?

PS. i've tried the search.

Start out with about 40 psi in the front and 35 psi in the rear. Take some white chalk or shoe polish and draw some lines on your tires from the tread to the sidewall. After your run, see where the marks have worn off. If it's rubbed off the sidewall, add more air. If it is not fully rubbed off the tread, let some air out. Don't get obsessive with the tire pressure. Concentrate more on your driving.

Get there early and try and walk the course as many times as you can. If you're like me, you'll have a hard time just not getting a course deviation your first time out. Don't try and go "all out" your first time out. Just take it somewhat easy and build up speed.

More than once I've seen heavily modified cars come out and rip all over the place and not even stay on course. Then they compain it's not a "real" racetrack and how much better they could do if they had this or that. Then you never see them again.

Here's a good link with a lot more info:

-Why? You don't enjoy the nice aroma from a loaner helmet, not to mention the itching you'll get after wearing it.
