whats up everyone. I just bought my '95 gst a couple months ago. Ive been workin on all mechanical issues and just the easy stuff (alternator, belts, water pump, etc.) Im getting ready to graduate high school so that means grad money, plus i have a good paying job. I plan on getting a paint job, and changing the body to a 97-99 style. I already have a magnaflow exhaust, injen short ram air intake, ECU upgrade and a HKS BOV and a stage 3 clutch basically brand new. Also i put a nice sony xplod speaker systema nd head unit, also some JDM turbo and a/f gauges What should my next purchases be? I'm just lookin' for some help

thanks and sorry about the length

I see you've been doing the basic maintenance so you can start throwing on performance mods which is the right path to take. I don't see your timing belt in that list of things you've done though, do you know when the last time it was replaced? How did you upgrade your ECU? What kind of "JDM" turbo is on your car? The A/F gauge you have is probably a narrowband and only worth the light show, sorry to break it to ya.

Personally, I'd save my highschool grad money for college expenses but since I'm not your dad... Definitely figure out when your timing belt was replaced and if you have no idea drop the cash to do it, your protecting your investment. After you do that use this as a general guideline for mod'ing your 2g.

oh yah i replaced the timing belt with all the other things, uhh I have to stock turbo and everything, I can't tell you the ECU upgrade, I totally blnked on it and the guy who had the car before put that in there, ill have to check it out when i get a chance

Since you've done all the basic maintenance to your car you still can't assume its going to be solid after you start putting down more horsepower. I'm guessing your trying to keep cost as low as possible while getting as much horsepower to the wheels as you can. Before you start tossing on a bigger turbo and turning up the boost there are a few supporting mods you need.

CHEAP STARTER MODs
-1g ('91-'94) throttle body... RREs# Eclipse 2G Turbo 1G Throttle Body Swap
-Fuel pump rewire... 2G DSM FWD Fuel Pump Rewire Instructions
-BCS restrictor... http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-turbo-system-intercooler/185405-bcs-restrictor-removal-explained.html

BOOST GAUGE
Once you get the above things done I'd get a boost gauge and put it in place of your narrowband AF gauge, I PROMISE it tells you nothing your car doesn't already know. An autometer one is fine...

INTERCOOLER PIPING/STOCK BOV
The 2g upper intercooler pipe (UICP) is crappy rubber and can leak boost once it gets old and cracks. You can find used hard pipe in the classifieds section here or buy new from a bunch of the vendors in the tuners marketplace. DSM Intercooler Pipes - DSMtuners.com
You'll also want to replace the crappy plastic 2g blow off valve since it can't hold much more than 12psi. To keep the cost down find a used 1g bov, used I see them go for $20 - $30 max. Just be sure you RECIRCULATE IT back into your intake or your car won't run right.

FUEL SYSTEM
Our DSM's have a fuel system that is efficient for the stock setup but can't keep up when you turn up the boost. The good thing is that there are a TON of Evo owners selling their used OEM fuel pumps and fuel injectors that DSM's can use. Get a Evo fuel pump and fuel injectors, you should be able to find a fp for around $30 and the injectors $50.

ENGINE MANAGEMENT
You won't be able to install your fuel pump or injectors until you get a way to control fuel. I know you said you had an "upgraded" ECU but your taking the word from the previous owner. Since you have a '95 you might have whats called an EPROM ECU which is a good thing. Use this to check if you have one or not epromid [ECMTuning - wiki] and if you do have one, congrats because I paid $200 for mine! They only came in the '95 2g DSM's so they are few and far between... if you do have one I'd save up and get dsmlink. You can control fuel, timing, and log from it all at once and you use your stock ECU to do it with a laptop connected. ECMTuning, Inc. I suggest spending the money on dsmlink instead of an SAFC and a logger, you won't be disappointed.

BOOST CONTROL
Now that you've got more fuel going to your 4g63 and a way to control it its time to show that t25 (the stock 2g turbo) what more than 12psi feels like. I like running a manual boost controller (mbc) because its cheap and gets the job done. DSM Mechanical - DSMtuners.com You'll see prices all over the map but more than $80 for a new mbc is too much...

I could go on all day, if you think you have enough grad money to continue with the mod list let me know. I think that should be a good start and keep you busy until the end of the summer. :D

Anymore questions feel free to ask, I'm usually on morning/noon/night!

Happy St. Patricks Day! Now thats a long post... :rocks:

well i have an aftermarket bov, and the only thing i didnt understand was the bcs restrictor, the ecu stuff, and i have a boost gauge (tells you the psi right?). haha well i think that covers it and thanks for your help. Ill have to keep in touch

The boost control solenoid (BCS) has a small restrictor inside one of its vacuum line connections. It keeps your stock boost levels around 9 - 10psi (its actually different from car to car) but by removing the restrictor in the BCS you can increase the boost you run SAFELY to 11 - 12psi. I'm not going to say its even a noticeable gain on the butt dyno but its free and I know it works. Before I did it on my car I watched the boost gauge at wide open throttle (WOT) and I hit 10psi. Then I followed that write up I sent you and did a WOT pull down an interstate on ramp, the car didn't feel like it pulled harder but the boost gauge climbed to 12psi.

Your boost gauge should show (-) or vacuum as in/Hg and show (+) or boost as psi. The in/Hg, or vacuum, is inches of mercury and psi, or boost, is pounds per square inch and both are terms used to measure pressure.

yah i looked at that write up and everything you sent me and it's definately gonna help. I can't wait to get back home after spring break and work on it : ). But one more question LOL. The ECU stuff, i don't understand that stuff, but thats about it.

The ECU stuff huh? Theres a lot of different routes you can take when buying an engine management setup for your car. Personally I think you should run dsmlink and since you already have a '95 dsm the hardwork MIGHT already be done.

The only 2g dsm that has an EPROM ECU thats needed to run dsmlink are the 1995's, not all came with them though. Your going to have to check to see if yours is an EPROM ECU or not and to do that you've got to take out the ECU.
Removing your ECU is actually really easy and should only take 30 minutes, use this when you do it... http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/253650-resolved-need-diagram-remove-ecu.html#post151128558

After you get the ECU out to see if its an EPROM or not use this epromid [ECMTuning - wiki]
