I have been working on this car for about 5 years now and im almost done. I bought the car sight unseen with strut tower/hatch rust in march of 08 while I was in the Navy in San diego. The car stayed in Missouri and I only drove it or had a chance to mess with it or learn about my DSM a few days out of the year when I would come home on leave. It was completly stock with a bov and body kit and stupid chrome wheels, but I was a kid. I have since done alot of work with this car over the years.

About a year ago the stock bottom end decided to break a turbo drain tube, and destroy the block, and my 20g. So we pulled the motor to find out the spec clutch was about trashed too. So with this being the 4th or 5th major thing to go out and break on this car I just decided I was gonna fix it all at once and spent alot of money this time. I also went the extra mile and had the strut towers professionally replaced by my buddy who owns a local bodyshop and the whole engine bay repainted

The goal with this car is for around a 650hp weekend car play toy and maybe enter it in some shows this summer and make it to the track a few times and see what happens.

Here is my photobucket of some pics from over the years of the car. Please feel free to comment. I know not everyone has my taste but I feel I have brought this thing a long way.

Heres the most recent pic of the car Im hoping to have it on the road and running good in about 2 months. Every bolt in the engine bay is getting replaced with stainless steel, and every bracket or thing possible in the engine bay has been sand blasted and powdercoated.

Things are finally coming back together.

-got brake lines looking good and painted black
-starting to get stuff back on the fire wall
-wire wheel and coated black all the front end suspension componets. They look horrible from sitting outside.
-got my Momo Nero steering wheel installed
-sparco carbon fiber shift knob
-mocked up front bumper. I got to pull it soon when I start sanding the car for paint
-got side skirts installed, but the end caps are being an PITA.

Heres a pic of the interior as it sits in my garage right now....Lighting is HORRIBLE so sorry for the bad pic. I didnt feel like rolling it out in the drive way to get a good one. The driver side carpet is pulled back, and its dirty. But is all black and 10/10 conditon which is getting hard to find.

Going back to 2gb. The body kit was on when i bought it and have never liked it. Just never got around to changing it. I got all the parts in the garage, the back kit is still on, but the 2gb front bumper and side skirts are still on.

I like it. Your setup is similar to my 1g build. I'm staying a 2.0 though, with that 2.1 destroked...you'll be able to rev to 10-11k rpm's all day....IF you can find a transmission to handle that kind of rpm LOL.

Ya I dont know. I have a semi built trans with less than 1000 miles on it And ill be running a brand new southbend Kevlar clutch. Do you think that will be good. Are you running the s362 also

Thank you for saving another dsm from the rice life. Uncle ben has enough brothers

I bought a 98 get for $400, and cut the strut towers out of it and took it to my buddy's local body shop. He charged me $1000 to to cut mine out, weld in my replacements prepped and painted my whole engine bay.

Here is the best pic I got of how bad of shape the engine bay was before I started redoing it. I cut out pretty much the whole strut tower cap and trim out the exact section i need off my donor clip.

A couple of my local buddies that are car gurus are saying that one this thing is done its gonna have a very small powerband. I beg to differ but i could be wrong. Please chime in, the block has manley turbo tuff rods, and should rev out to about 9k+.

62mm turbo on a 2.1? Get some bigger cams than those BC272s, some serious springs, and eventually switch over to the divided T3 or T4 hotsides available to that S300 and wind that thing to the moon.

Try and find a used JMF or Magnus race or drag style intake manifold when the budget allows.

If you can get the S362 to light early enough and see full boost @ 4500-4700, then wind out to ~10500... that would be one serious power band.

Either your friends are giving you a hard time, jealous, or they just don't know enough about the platform, turbo 4cyl motors or modifying cars in general.

Because you said they are your friends, I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt LOL

I find it odd that your buddies said you would have a short powerband. Isn't tbe whole point of going with a 2.1 to increasr your powerband?
We ill the 2.1 not spool up that turbo till 8k or something?

Heat and displacement spools the turbo. Some pro-mod guys I was talking to last week were suggesting stroke helps, so you may be at a slight disadvantage there but I don't think a couple millimeters are gonna make or break this.

Especially when you look at what other 2.0 guys are getting the S362 and S259 to spool at with the .70A/R Open T3 backside.

My S259 was a great street/strip turbo in pretty much every turbine side I tried.. bolt on .55, .70 Open T3 and both the divided T3 and T4 housings. This was on the bigger 74mm S200sx turbine wheel too.

Just my 2psi :aha:
