Ok, i bought the TRE synchro kit for my car, it comes with JUST the synchros..

i was looking at my stuff last night and my 3-4 sleeve is a little worn (points are kinda rounded) and i want to replace it.. everything else is a-ok..

problem: TRE only sells the hub and sleeve as a kit and you have to buy ALL of the sets ($300)

Dealership only sells it as part of a full synchro kit.. all synchros, hubs sleeves and crap... ($400 +)

the sleeve in and ov itself is about a $30 part... but i cant find any place that sells it by itself..

so its looking like im gonna have brand new synchros.. and my 3rd gear is still gonna grind because the sleeve is worn.. or i will have to spend over $300 and wait several more days for a $30 part..

what the hell can i do?

Call up Mitsubishi and buy a a 3/4 hub/sleeve. If the sleeve is worn then chances are the hub is too. It shouldn't cost more than $125. re-use your spring and keys or buy new ones for an addition $10. Make sure they go in the correct way.

Chances are it comes with a 3rd and 4th syncro ring so you either have extras or you can sell them as I am sure someone would need them eventually. If you want, I'll buy them from you for $20.

local mitsu place will only sell me entire set.. wont sell just the sleave or just the hub and sleave.. the hub is in perfect shape, the sleeve isnt THAT bad really.. but still.. this is stupid..

but ive got bigger probs now, the synchros TRE sent me.. well.. the 5th gear one. *sort of* matches.. its a little taller then the stock one (laying flat the wall is taller) but the one right under that one (on same hub) they sent me NO match for.. none of their synchros match it at all.. my car has 6 synchros and they only sent me 5.. dont ask me..

I havent had the other 4 pressed off yet so i dont know what kinda nice suprise awaits me there..,

Call Norco Mitsubishi, Tallahassee Mitsubishi or Conicelli Mitsubishi. Part number is MD749416 for the 3/4 hub/sleeve.

You have 5 syncros and a reverse brake. The reverse brake is on the end and probably fell out when you pulled the end cap. TRE does not send this in their kit as far as I know.

1st is a big syncro, 2nd should be a double syncro, 3rd and 4th are large as well, and 5th should be the smallest, if my memory serves me right.

While you have it apart you should install filter if it doesn't already have one. Part number MD738053

This is on a 97 GST, right?

well i got the synchro part figured out, and everything is pressed in and complete now, just gotta chenge the halfshaft seals, get some plastigauge and measure the bearing clearences and adjust, and sela it all back up, hope to have it stabbed by tommorrow night, maby even running.. :)

as for my sleeve, i showed it to a few tranny folk and they were pretty much agreed that the wear i had was not gonna cause any real probs of any sort any time soon, they said as long as the ridges are not like all busted or worn flat they wnt hurt shifting..

plus they pointed out the fact that since im running a much lighter flywheel now (fidanza) that my shifts will be at a lower rev because the car will rev down faster, thus helping aswell..

im just not looking foreward to laying on my back and stabbing that tranny myself... i really hate doing that..
