Need to know the truth about 95-99 AWD gear ratios.

Ok I am putting together a 5 speed 95 AWD talon. I have the stock 95 rearend and driveshaft for it. Also have the stock 95 Transfer case.

I just bought a 97 AWD tranny for it, the 97 transfer case came with it. I was wanting to use the 97 t. case because it is SO much cleaner and about 30k less on it.

Can I do this? I have read that all 95-99 awd parts are identical if all from a 5 speed. But then I have also read that 95-96 cars have different gear ratios that 97+

So which is it? I guess if all 95-99 rearends/driveshafts are the same, I should have NO problem using the matched 97 tranny/transfer case.

Now comparing my 98 awd talon to a friends 95 GSX. His 1st gear seems ALOT different that mine. My rpms shoot up VERY fast through 1st and his dont. Im confused as hell. Please help.

The 1st gear ratio is the same. You can use a 97-99 trans if you use the 97-99 t.case.

Not only it not a problem to use a '97 T-case, you MUST do it!

You may also need to update the rear end, but I am not 100% about that...

Thanks for the help guys. Everyone else has been telling me that all 95-99 parts are the same.

BTW, I just got an email back from Jon at TRE also.

He said the same thing basically. That the 95-99 Rearends/driveshafts are all the same. But you must match the tranny and transfer case. So in other words I have to use my 97 tranny and 97 xcase.



P.S. Shep, my tranny will be coming to you when I need it done. I have a 95 AWD tranny on the way so maybe Ill just have that one fixed up and use that 95 Xcase with it. Ill run the 97 stuff until it breaks tho.
