i was driving home from work and all of a sudden my car starts to rev up. so i think its i accidentally put it in neurtal but i look down and its in drive! its only on the OverDrive think. Anyone know whats going on?

your end clutches are shot. I believe there is a Vfaq on how to get them replaced. in any case, if you search you will find a ton of info on this, i think everyone's end clutches have had to be replaced at one time or another.

thanks for the help. i read the vfaq and i was wondering if you need to take out the tranny to replace the clutch or can i be left there on just work w/ the tire off? it doenst matter about it might be too low for me to work on it becuase ill be doing it in my automotive class and they have professional lifts.

edit: oh and it only happens if i press the gas hard and it shifts higher in the rpms band than normal ( about 5.5k) then it wont go in until i drop it down to first but sometimes second works too.

I'm kind of not understanding this post. When does this trans neutralize? Is it only after the 3-4 shift, or is it any time that the shifter is in the OD position?

ok did more testing, only when i get on it and then let go of the gas and i try to push the gas again and then it revs up, so whenever i let off the gas after ive pushed the gas all the wayit doesnt engage. does this help?

i have the same problem in my 92 gsx, but it only does it sometimes

Here's a wild guess....check ur ATX fluid...ive u have developed a leak somewhere and your tranny isnt running at proper fluid levels, then ur tranny will slip in and out of gear...sometimes you will need to rev it up high before it makes a hard "pop" into gear and also low fluid levels will make it hard to shift between gears regardless of how u drive or what gear its in. Start the car one morning let it idle for about ten minutes, then check to see that your fluid is at the "cold" level. Also if it looks like a deep cherry or darker color then its time to change that filter and fuild down there!
