Toronto,
Forgive me if this have been said before...

But for those who have a 89-93 Galant, you can use the stock 1G shifter and replace the old one you have. I know there is a difference between years, but to be safe, just grab the same year that your car is. (I.E. if you have a '92 galant, grab a '92 1G shifter).

:p

Just last week I traded a friend my stock 92 GVR4 shift assembly for a spare 90 talon TSI shift assembly that he had, if fits fine, same part I do believe.

What I actually did was take the spare and cut 2" off under the threads for the shift knob and re-welded it on. I also added about 3/4" to the bottom "ear", just above where the shift cable attaches. Mind you that 3/4" was too much and I had to cut and re-weld it shorter yet (it was scraping on the sheet metal floor, may not even need to be shorted).

The shift I gained put a smile on my face. Much shorter throw than the stock GVR4 shift swing. It gives the car a aggressive feel to it when shifting, like it almost should be putting out HP. It feels very close (if not the same) as my friends B&M (think that's what he has), saved me $75-$150.
