i wanted to get an evo tranny mainly b/c of having 6 gears and driver controled center diff.. and mine needs to be replaced... first where can i get one and what .. if any modification will need to be done for me to get it working?

I was thinking the same thing, and then I found out the motor is in opposite of ours. If you can figure out how to make the transfer case point the other way let me know ;)

I wonder if any one will ever make a kit to fit then tranny is our cars. Are they much stronger then our stock trannys does any one know?

I don't know but I sure hope so. If anyone wants to send me an EVO tranny I'll get right to work on making a kit for the swap ;)

uhh they aren't 6 spd are they? as far as i knew none were ever made 6spd. you guys talkin about some rally tranny i don't know about? (evo7+evo8 are on wrong side anywayz.) just wondering..............

It's like the stupids got together and had a pow wow in the thread.

Go look at an EVO4-8 engine bay. Look really close.

Now go look in a DSM engine bay.

Notice something different? Notice how the whole engine mounts on the OPPOSITE side? That the new 4G63 rotates the OPPOSITE way?

Ugh.

in theory it should work? but its just a 5spd anywayz, and for the price of finding the "jdm evo3" tranny u might as well have tre build a race tranny for u. later

LOL!

Just because the EVO 3 uses the same 4G63 doesn't mean its gonna work. I guarantee you the mounts are going to be different. 2G tranny's don't fit 1G's, after all.

Why are people so eager to get this tranny.. just because its from an EVO? What evidence has shown its stronger than what we have? It's unproven, the gear ratios are probably different, and the cost for the tranny, fab the mounts, evo center diff, etc will cost way more than a Shepherd rebuild that will kick the EVO's ass.

What about just swaping the gears. I would think that the gears in the evo would fit into the dsm trannies.

why switch gears? i've never heard that they were any stronger..... they are probably closer ratio thats about it, and as far as i knew dsm's have a large enough powerband that a close ratio isn't really needed....... idk anywayz....

Sheesh, kids these days buy into names too much. Just get a built tranny from a reputable transmission shop.

so are the taboo shift forks the best ones to get?? thats what everyone has been telling me..... thanks

That is something completely different. Taboo makes a clutch release fork that pushes the throwout bearing forward.

is there anything i can buy to have a driver controled center diff like the evo or sti (not us evo)
