What is the difference between the pre-91' transmissions? I notice that at TRE they dont sell all the parts they have for the 90 transmission. Ok, with that in order, does that mean if I bought a transmission off a 92' dsm, would i be able to bolt it up? Because it would be nice to just buy another one off dsm trader to avoid down time.

The 90 transmission has a 22 spline transfer case. The 91-94 tranny has a 23 spline transfer case. Also, the intermediate shaft was weaker on the 90, and overall, the 90 transmission was weaker. This is why you don't see much listed for the 90. Shepracing, TRE, and BM tranny will all build a 90, but it usually runs about 500 bucks extra to get a 90 tranny up to par with a 91-94. If you are looking to purchase something, call John at Shepracing. He is the man and his prices are good.

But would a a transmission from a different year of 1st gen, (ie: 91) bolt up in my 90? Or would i need a new transfer case?

It would bolt up but you would need the correct transfer case to match it......unless you were to change the output shaft in the tranny.

90 awd transmission has bigger diameter on 3rd and 4th gear than 91-99.
