what is VCE (Viscous Coupling Eliminator)? what does it do?
my stock Viscous Coupler is damaged, should i get that instead of buying an OEM at the dealership?
 
You can use it to dyno AWD cars on a 2wd dyno. It effectively makes and AWD into a FWD. It's also used as a cheap alternative to a welded center dif.

My Viscous Is Damaged, do you think my tranny's internals are bad too? my Viscous is cut in half and have some metals, like rings inside. well, what happen was when i pulled in to my garage , I saw this oil comin' out of the tranny, the was no grinding of shifts when i'm heading home, the guy from the tranny shop said the tranny is still ok, he said i only have to buy this Viscous coupling, well i'm skeptical and i don't want to waste my money if i buy the viscous and it's gonna end up the same way. what do you think? is it bad or still good? it shifts smooth and no grinding at all, the viscous's internal( the metals inside) just ruined the "cap" of the tranny but it's fixable by JB Weld. i need help.
 
You should be fine just buying a new viscous coupler. I would flush the tranny for safety just to make sure there is no extra metal floating around in there.

Check the pricing on a new one....

My advice, if it's for a street car, buy a used VC.

It's nice to have a VCE around for dyno tuning, but on the street, you won't have a happy car.
 
BTW...viscous couplers just don't ex/implode like that for no reason, you should probably be on the lookout for the reason behind the VC failing in such a manner.

Hey Jeff, do you work at Turbo Trix? just wondering.

That is what i have in my mind just to buy a new viscous coupler, do you think it's worth it? how do i flush my tranny? just go to the auto shop and let them flush it?

Finally!! i found the difference, I have a street car , so i might buy a VC not VCE, thanks man.

I made questions on the forum about why my viscous went that way. nobody responded to my Thread.

The new VC costs $233.00 plus tax at the dealership.
 
One other note...replace the end housing of the transmission with a new or used one. They're like $20-$30 new. Beats putting JB Weld on there and having it leak right away, or later on.

$20 -$30 New? where?... the dealership? they charged a lot.. it might be $ 80 to $100.00. I'll ask. I think my tranny's internals are still good, like what i said no grinding or hard shifting before i removed the Tranny, but why the hell the viscous coupler cut in half..... grrr damn Viscous Coupler.
 
DSSA knows exactly what all the parts cost.. he's the DSM hookup at Conicelli Mitsu..
 
I have talked to BM tranny and TRE they both have said DO NOT drive a VCE in the street. It was not designed to handle that type of abuse.
 
I might go to a local transmission shop and ask then to check it if it's bad or still good, I'd rather rebuild it for $785 instead buying a Viscous Coupler that will end up the same way.
