1st gen motor and turbo for 250 bucks

Ok heres my question. My friend has a 91 gsx that he is going to be getting rid of. he found out that it had a load of tranny probs so he was just going to junk it. He offered to sell me everything under the hood for 250 bucks. The motor has 156k on it and the turbo spools up decently. Is it worth buying a using in my 2g tsi?

YES! That is a pretty good deal and if you ever get crankwalk you will be wishing that you had that 6 bolt engine ready to bolt in. The six bolt can be built to handle the power and not get crankwalk. I am sure that it could get it but you never hear of it. Your 2g with the 7bolt could have problems in the future or it couldn't. Its kind of a game of luck. If you put an aftermarket clutch in that 7-bolt you will have a better chance of getting crankwalk (that is what it sounds like at least). I would say go for it!

Oh, and make sure to rebuild the engine and turbo. They are tired. Ask him to do a compression check before he tears the engine out.

your best bet also might be to see if he will let you use it as a doner car for all the engine components. If he goes and pulls and then and everything that he thinks you might need and then junk it, he might forget to grab something that you need to bring over into your car like a control module that cost almost 200 dollars or something. If you could get the car and bring it over to your car and simply just do a transplant, you will have the car running before he get rid of it and that can save you alot of time money and hassle.
